I had a little bit of difficulty connecting with the characters, but I think that is more because I read this book on and off over several weeks; my life has just been very busy. It was hard for me to invest myself emotionally in this book because of that. After Ellie went through with a tough decision that she made (sorry, I don't give spoilers), I was able to read more consistently. At the end, I was genuinely happy with the ending of the book and the promise that it held.
All in all, I believe this is a great story for young adult readers. There isn't any sexual content, and the life lessons are well-written in this book. The book itself reads smoothly, and I don't recall finding any errors.
When Ellie discovers a book inhabited by a spirit, the author shines at telling his story and how he became trapped within the book. I got caught up in “Spirit’s” tale. From the time-period and settings, to the characters who inhabit Spirit’s world, this is where the book takes on wonderful new appeal.
I loved the interaction between Ellie and Spirit and how his story ultimately helps her to see herself differently. The ending is satisfying and is guaranteed to leave you with a warm feeling and whimsical smile. An enchanting tale!
After the beginning chapter or two, the story moves at a good pace. I gave he story 4.5 and rounded up to 5 stars. The characters are well-fleshed out and enjoyable. Spirit of the Book has a wonderful plot and a satisfying ending. Excellent writing.
Ellie and Spirit have a wonderful relationship. Both of them go to extremes to show each other their worlds. But it soon becomes obvious that, while Ellie can be a part of the magical world that Spirit knows, Spirit does not belong in the modern world that Ellie lives in. That realization starts as a tiny rift and grows into a rather large chasm that can only be fixed by a drastic action. One with potentially catastrophic consequences.
The characters in this story are likable and lovely. The plot is easy to understand and moves quickly. The ending is logical and leaves the reader quite satisfied.
I only hesitate to give the story a higher rating due to an excessive amount of backstory that could have been interwoven rather than dumped in large batches (or in some cases omitted entirely), some POV head-hopping in scenes, and some pretty obvious typos that should have been caught in editing. That said, these were minor annoyances that didn’t detract too much from the overall enjoyment of the story itself, which is a rather good tale.
This is a quick read, quite enjoyable.
I enjoyed the idea of the two main characters. It was a shame they appeared one dimensional and a bit too bland at times. The plot had great potential, but to be a thoroughly great read, it also required more depth, action and excitement. A good try. Thank you for sharing this tale.

It's a little heavy on the initial backstory, which I'd rather see sprinkled in as we go, and has a problem with typos, but the writing stands out...Read more
