About the Author
She has been active in the church nationwide since her youth, as soprano vocalist, literature evangelist, youth leader, health presenter, soul-winner, and in other such ministries. She has served as vocalist for the Breath of Life Television Broadcast. As a published musician, her music is aired on radio stations in parts of the USA, as well as in Canada, Bermuda and Jamaica. This inspirational debut CD is entitled, My Cornerstone, and is presented in her beautifully unique style, as a lyric soprano.
Dr. Cates exhibited a life of excellence in academics as well. She graduated Valedictorian of her Junior High School class and later, of her High School class, and Magna Cum Laude with a Batchelor of Arts degree in Biology from Oakwood College, in Huntsville, AL. She has been a recipient of many academic achievement awards through the years, including Whos Who in Colleges and Universities, Americas Distinguished High School Students, Outstanding Young Woman of America among many others.
She then graduated from University of Alabama School of Medicine with a Doctorate of Medicine degree, and completed residency training in Emergency Medicine at Howard University Hospital in 1991, becoming board certified in Emergency Medicine in 1992. She was the first African American woman to join the prestigious Southeast Emergency Physicians Group in Washington, DC, became senior partner and Executive Secretary on the Board of Directors, and served on the Emergency Management Systems Committee for the District of Columbia. She served as Medical Officer for the DC Mayoral Cabinet during the United States Presidential Inauguration of 1993. Later, she co-founded the Southern Maryland Emergency Physicians Group. She was also recipient of the Americas Top Physicians Award by the Consumers Research Council of America. She is listed in the National Registers Whos Who in Executives and Professional and was awarded Alumna of the Year 2003 at Oakwood College.
Dr. Cates is now Founder and President of a non-profit corporation called National CHECK UP, Inc. that provides education on health and wellness. She is also a published author. Her just released book is entitled, Holy Spirit Mother Because God is Family, which is sure to be an international best seller, as it restores biblical family unity.
And speaking of family. Dr. Cates has her own family. She is married to Dr. Maurice Cates, who is an Orthopedic Surgeon. They have three beautiful, bright and blessed children, Walesia II- age 9, Maurice II- age 7, and Maurcus- age 5. They are home schooled and have their own public speaking ministry, which helps to build up Gods Kingdom of Excellence throughout this country. Dr. Cates understands, appreciates and operates in her God-given blessings, talents and dominion. She celebrates true family unity and the chance to help families realize their full potential by following biblical principles. She is in love with the Supreme Family of God, which, she teaches, includes God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit Mother.
