Zane is busy trying to ease her fears when Rose, their house ghost, runs in and begs Akira for a favor. It seems the 'mean ghost' inhabiting the house Akira refused to even view, is threatening the woman and child in the house if they won't leave.
Akira who loves Rose, the teenager that died of suicide in the 50's, agrees to try and convince the woman to move. The woman, of course, thinks she is nuts and tells Akira to leave. Her son, however, sees the 'mean lady' and so...
Then there is an emergency...Akira and Zane rush to aid the woman and child.
To tell you more would probably be move words than this short tale has. I will tell you that it answers questions about Rose that I had been developing in my mind. Great tale and leaves you thinking.
It didn't bother me, but some people might be disappointed by the fact that there is very little that is actually about the Christmas holiday except for the time of year that the story takes place. The characters themselves, both living and ghosts (and Rose, who might not be a ghost at all), have well-defined personalities with crisp, vibrant imagery that really brings the story to life. Sarah Wynde writes very well and there was only one missing word and no typos or spelling mistakes so the story flowed easily with no interruptions. Her style is both easy and pleasurable to read.
This is a lovely little addition to the Tassamara series so if you are familiar with the background, then I'm sure that you will enjoy this book. This book is free until Dec. 28th so hurry and download it. Happy reading!
But it still gave me the warm fuzzies.
I've already read Sarah Wynde's 'The Gift of Ghosts' and 'The Gift of Thought'. This is a short story with some of those books' characters (and ghosts). You should probably read at least 'The Gift of Ghosts' before reading this story. I'm not sure you can appreciate it fully if you don't have the background.
I gave the two books that I'd already read 4-Star ratings, as I thought that they were both very good and well written.
This short story was more in the 'Really Good' range for me--like 4-1/2 stars. There most likely was something about this one that could have been better, but darn if I can remember; I was too engrossed in it to care. I literally flew through this story without a break, it was such a easy and satisfying read.
Do yourself a favor and give this series a chance. The ghosts are not frightening, the romances are not that graphic, and yet they have plots and characters that should keep you avidly reading until (sigh!) the books end. AND, I might add--they don't end with the dreaded "Cliff Hanger".
