This booklet is a compilation of E.W. Bullinger s booklet The Spirits in Prison and the chapter of the same title in his book Selected Writings. The only difference, other than set out, was that in Selected Writing some of the footnotes were included in the text, while others, more technical in character, were excluded altogether. In this production the more general footnotes are included in the text, and the more technical ones have superscripts and are added as endnotes on pages 26-29. --Michael Penny
About the Author
E W Bullinger was a direct descendant of Heinrich Bullingerm, the great Swiss reformer who carried on Zwingli's work after the latter had been killed in war. E W Bullinger was brought up a Methoidst but sang in the choir of the Episcoplian Cathedral at Canterbury in Kent, England. He trained to be an Episcopalian Minsiter but soon gave that up and became secretary of the Trinitarian Bible Society. He was a man of intense spirituality and made a number of outstanding contributions to biblical scholarship and broad-based evangelical Christianity. See, for example, some of his other publications such as "The Rich Man and Lazarus", "The Second Advent in Relation to the Jew", "The Names and Order of the Books of the Old Testament" and "The Name of Jehovah in the Book of Esther".
