This is a good set that your kids will enjoy playing with. There are some minor issues I have with this set, but they're not a deal-killer. Here's my thoughts:

Pros:
- Spirograph has been around forever and is always fun to play with.
- This kit has plenty of different "wheels" to make a myriad of different designs. Your kids won't get bored with this set.
- Included work space is convenient to have for drawing just about anywhere.
- This set is compact and easily transported with the included handle (neat design).
- Even for the shortcomings, this set is a great deal for the price paid.

Cons:
- The pens included with this set are less than ideal. For optimal satisfactions with this set, you will want to go out and purchase some high-quality pens. Some have used felt tip, I prefer gel based colored pens.
- This may not be a fair comparison, but I remember my spirograph back when I was a kid was substantially heavier-duty constructed. The wheels seemed to be heavier and tougher. These just seem flimsier/lighter/weaker than I remember. Maybe this is not the case, but I just feel like they aren't as robust.

Overall, I would totally recommend this set for your kids or as a gift. They are a ton of fun to play with, and as always, the designs that come off of this are beautiful to look at. For the price of this set, I don't think you can go wrong, even for the shortcomings I have mentioned.

A complete piece of useless junk! I honestly don't understand the positive reviews.
We had "the original" as children in the '70's, which was made by Hasbro. It had push pins to attach the wheels to an included thick piece of cardboard. Wheels were thicker, not bendable as these. We would play with this hours on end, and never got sick of using it.
I was apprehensive to purchase this when I read the description, but I figured I'd give it a try, with all the "great" reviews.
The putty used to attach the wheels is one of the most imbecile ideas I've ever seen. I attempted to set this up, and after I saw how lame the setup was, it went back in the shipping box to return. The putty stuck to the paper, raised the wheel just enough for the inner wheel to ride underneath the attached wheel, making it useless. I could go on and on, but I won't.
I will say to the reviewers who wrote that this is the next best thing since sliced bread, you must've never seen the original spirograph. If you have, then you must own stock in this company that destroyed the original design.
To Kahootz Toys, did you really have to cheap out and ruin such an amazing, creative, genius drawing toy? How much did you save by using putty instead of the original design? The box it's packed in is made better than the actual product. Why in the world???

I've got an original from the 70's and they haven't changed much, if at all. They include that tacky clay sold for nonmarking use but I often have to work to get it all removed from the paper and gears. Now it may hold the gears to the paper but the paper will slide around messing up your little designs. I highly recommend getting push pins and a cork board (or cardboard) to keep things steady.

I originally bought this for my 2 year old, not realizing the manual dexterity needed. This is the best accidental gift ever! I have been playing with this every day. And while my daughter can't use it yet, she loves to watch me do it and asks for it All The Time.
This kit has everything you need to make incredible mandala - like designs. And my favorite part is coloring them in. I am fantasizing about all the cards and stationary I can make for myself and gifts. Regular ball point pens work great. I bought a pack of multiple colors and am having so much fun experimenting with the endless number of patterns. I tried gel pens on navy blue paper and the ink smeared due to the rotating spirograph wheels. But I was able to trace over the designs and the finished product is bright and pops.
I would and am recommending this product to all my friends and family who enjoy creating art.

Wobbly wheels

I have an original Spirograph to compare this one to and must say the quality of the new one is wanting. The original was made of a hard acrylic that was actually breakable if you wanted to destroy one of the wheels. The new one is made out of a much softer and flexible material. Although I don't have a particular opinion about either material if the product functions, the new Spirograph unfortunately had several defective wheels that I believe can be traced back to the materials. Wheels 80, 72 and 63 were unfortunately not flat and indeed had such a degree of wobble that they reliably jumped out of the teeth of the outer ring that I was trying to rotate them in. While wheel 72 is the worst, 80 and 63 are bad enough not to work. I can see extremely frustrated artists of a young age who have their work messed up by using a wobbly wheel on a complex, nearly finished design. The defect is really unfortunate and I am wondering the longevity of the set considering how soft the materials is. The remaining wheels provide plenty of designs to get busy with and the price is not unreasonable so overall it is not a terrible product to purchase as a gift, especially if it is for kids who have never played w/a set before. I have added to pictures. Picture one shows wheel 72 laying flat. Picture two shows light pressure applied to part of the wobble, which created a significant gap on the opposite side.

Bought the ‘Original’ Spirograph set for a child. Had so much fun I bought myself this Deluxe set and I’m not disappointed.
I’m using it not as a toy but as a serious piece of art equipment to create designs and greetings cards. It’s particular effective when you colour your patterns in.

The Deluxe edition comes with quite a few more rings and wheels to create hundreds more pattern combinations.
It also has the addition of 4 shaped wheels. These give a totally different variety of geometric shapes. It’s worth it for that alone.
The box it comes in is a fairly sturdy carry case and the pens supplied are OK, but I’ll be using a whole range of coloured gel pens that I bought separately. They work particularly well.

Only 2 things to be aware of.
The putty they supply to hold the rings in place is not good. I prefer to use the old method of pinning it to the paper. The rings still have the holes for that.
All the pieces work together beautifully, but when picking a pattern with tight bends, it does take some dexterity to keep the pen moving smoothly and not jerking across your drawing. Particularly with the shaped wheels.

All in all, brilliant!! And though some younger children may struggle with some of the patterns, it doesn’t matter. It’s fun anyway.

some lovely patterns. My only gripe would be that holding the discs in place was a bit difficult. Obviously the old method
of a cork board and pins as used many moons ago would not comply with health and safety these days! I managed to survive
without incident!! The putty like substance used now is not as efficient.Having said that it is still a really good creative product.

As a child I always wanted a spectrograph set after having a go with a relative's. My parents could not afford it. So now an adult and a good bit older. I bought my self this set. My only down side, as with everyone else, is the pins and board used in the older version. They have now been replaced with white/blue tack. Not as good. I have still given this 5star rating, as after all its a spectrograph. It's up to your self to find the pins/board if you feel the 'tack' is not substantial. I'm a bit rusty at using it, however I feel just as thrilled at seeing the patterns emerge. Enjoy this and be a child again

I never had this as a kid but always wanted one, so this was a present to myself until my 10 year old got her hands on it! She found it a little tricky to start with but soon got the hang of it. We've had so much fun with it, doodling away for hours on end. The only criticism I have is that the pens are useless. Invest in some nicely coloured Ink Joy pens, or Stabilo fineliners and you'll get much better results

comes in a plastic type wallet which opens up revealing everything you need to make all the spirals you could think of, it also doubles up as an area on which to draw on .
I found the blutak type stuff you get to hold the rings down was a bit of a let down and didn't quite do the job of holding it steady, you have to hold the ring down with your other hand while drawing the spirals. My granddaughter (5) found this to be frustrating, and I held the ring in place while she drew the spirals, this is its only draw back.
