Starting with build quality, overall I would give it a 3/5 stars it's by far the weakest element to this set of headphones. The Orion's have some weight to them, but when held and and examined they just don't feel as sturdy as I would like in a headset. They look nice to be sure, but the plastic and padding doesn't feel like it's up to the task of lasting a long time. The ear padding is nice and supple made of a fake leather type of material. There is padding on the top band with adds much comfort and is a must in any headset or headphone that I purchase. There is no vice grip feel with these. I have a larger head and was expecting a tight grip, but they held at just the right force for me. They can extend just like pretty much any other headset in this range, to fit pretty much any head. The mic is on the left cup and can not be removed and placed on the right. It is a retracting mic so it can get pushed into the headset for travel or if you just feel like listening to music or what have you. The mic feels cheap, it can be moved pretty easily around and stays put once you have found a good position for it. These are very comfortable to wear, I have not used them for a long session of over 6 hours but for the few hours I have had them on in a row they maintained and nice feel on my head. The cable is not detachable from the headset side so if it breaks you're on your own. But the quality of the cable is very nice, it is a braided cable and feels like it will hold up over a long time. So overall very comfortable, with just ok build quality and a cheap feeling mic.
Sound quality on this thing is decent for the price. I would give it a 4/5 stars. Now I am a personal believer in that perception plays a huge part in our lives. If you are coming from, let's say a skullcandy headphone set. You will be very happy with the sound. Or really anything along those lines of cheap headphones or headsets you will be happy with your selection. If you are coming from a higher quality headphone or headset you might not be completely satisfied with the sound. This is definitely not for audiophiles I'll leave it at that. These have 50mm drivers, and when using the ROG Spitfire that come only with the pro's you get the options of AMP, SURROUND, and FPS. Now I have not fully tested these modes to get a full grasp on what they offer in multiple situations. I can say this you do not want them turned on if you are listening to music. It wrecks the sound in my opinion. Stick to gaming in these boys. I have not tried these setting in a multi-player fps yet. When I do I will update this to inform you how much you can really hear the footsteps behind you and how the surround actually works. Speaking of the ROG Spitfire, it's a handy little thing to have. It is called a driverless audio processor. So you shouldn't have to worry about getting the proper drivers and such for it. If you have a soundcard and plug this in, it will not use it and will run off it's own accord. Now you can completely take away the Spitfire and just plug directly into the soundcard or headphone and mic jacks on your computer, completely up to you. I just really like that they included the option. Anyway more on the sound after I have fully tested it.
The Mic SOUND quality is very good 5/5 stars! The build quality of it seems cheap but that does not inflict on the sound of it. I have had no issues with people hearing me at all. There has been some issues with people hearing their own voice in the headset. This issue is easily fixed. All you need to do is go to your drivers/devices find the Orions and turn down the Sidetone (I believe thats what it's called.) If you need detailed instructions just search the web there are many people who explain it in full detail.
Now to some of the side notes here and the summary. The Orion's also come with a cable organizer, which I guess it handy but I don't really use it. These do completely cover my big ears, so that is a huge bonus. Now, I have a big head so if they cover mine and you're worried about yours, fear not! So why did I give this headset a 4/5 stars, the reason is simple. It's hard to find a deal with this type of quality and options for just $110. I guess that covers it. If anything changes I will update and stand by for the complete sound test. If you have any question just let me know.
The main reason I'm writing this review is because of the mic quality. The quality is so good when you use dictation application it works perfectly especially on Mac. I'm actually physically writing this review with the head set right now.
Okay, now for the bad, It's pretty much useless for surround sound application. I doesn't have the same effect as 5.1 surround sound, due to speaker drivers are so close together. (This is a heads up if your buying this head phone for sole purpose of surround sound effect), but my overall experience with the ASUS Orion Pro Gaming Headset is still 5/5
I had my for about headset about a year and a half when it broke. The microphone and the left ear stopped working so i find my manual to return it. The manual says 2 years but amazon only warranty's it for 1. I call Asus and have to deal with their support, Which after 4 hours got me nowhere. so i deal with amazon again, they say they will give me a "refund" which turns out to be only $87.99 of the $109.99 which i paid for in the first place. all i wanted was for them to fix it.
TL;DR: Great product with amazing audio quality. Asus support sucks. Try to be gentle on the cord.
