First of all, Sarah Thiessen is a professional licensed therapist, not a pastor (though she did go to Bible college), & has been led (reluctantly, with the same Christian reservations this pastor reviewer has, as the book makes clear) by the Father to open her understanding that it was actually Him leading her to put her budding practice into His Hands for Him to reach parts of His people that nothing else has been able to reach in therapy. This book is about psychological tools in the therapy field that He has expanded / redeemed to follow His Lead in setting captives free in therapeutic prayer sessions. Although both this pastor reviewer & the author are both obviously solidly fundamentally Bible-rooted Christian, this is primarily an apples to oranges comparison to expect a book about placing therapeutic tools of the psychological field in the Hands of the Almighty God to be pastoral in it's scope.
Secondly, a human being is an incredibly deep & amazing creation which is mostly wordless (i.e. from an intuitive, awareness, feeling/emotion-registering perspective at the "subconscious" level). The Father has given a way for someone in the psychological field using psychological tools to make actual change in His people. All this protocol is doing is allowing this deeper wordless part of our soul to communicate in order to resolve unresolved emotions at this deep level by the Lord Himself. Period. Please, please be careful not to blaspheme the Holy Spirit Who actually ministers in these sessions - because you know by the Word that it will not be forgiven you (you know where this verse is, spoken by The Master Himself).
If you think your own inner being that has recorded everything you've ever experienced is akin to a Ouija board, you probably should think again. It is the inner part of us that learns to cope, to mask, to do whatever it thinks it needs to do to survive - & there's so many of us walking around bound up inside in so many different ways - sure, we survive, but the Father has given us a way here to have even more of an abundant life on top of the abundant life He's already given us in Jesus - I've been a new creation in Him for over 30 years now & nothing but nothing but nothing will ever compare with the Psalms & the rest of His Word, ever - the author never disputes that - but if He has given someone in the psychological field psychological tools to help free me even more completely under His Own Leading, bound in prayer all around, who would I be to badmouth it - ? This author sets clear & absolute boundaries that absolutely stop under Jesus' covering - I know because I've heard first hand out of her own mouth in person everything stated here.
We shouldn't trash people until we actually know in depth what it is they're doing.
This author gives so MANY cautions & has been so diligent to search out everything she felt she was being led to do every step of the way against the Bible she so clearly loves, respects & would never cross - & she STILL gets trashed for it. Shame on us.
And far as the other bad review goes, the girl actually states that she was told she MIGHT be able to go off her medication someday - & then she states she immediately (apparently) took herself off of it -- she obviously wasn't in a place to discern between what she was told to do & what she took upon herself to do & apparently didn't have the capacity at the time to actually hear & understand the clear direction it sounds like she was given but it sounds like she has found a therapist better equipped to reach & help her so best wishes to her.
Being made in the image of God: by His design, purpose and power, should cause us to worship the only One who created it all.
I found this book fascinating, extremely well written and yet the author humble of heart.
