The first thing the preschool children that I shared this book with was to express how much they liked the illustrations, which I thought were excellent and matched the story line perfectly. The story shows children that we are all different and finding a place where we fit and can achieve takes trial and error. I then pointed out that some children in our class loved books and had started to read while others spent as much time as possible in dramatic play or art. Spaltypus is a great book to share with preschool children and then let them talk about it and direct them to ideas of acceptance of our differences.
This is a great book that young children will love. It's silly and fun. The rhyming words are important for children learning to read. The pictures are beautifully done. This was a fun read with a great ending. Well done!
