Gr. 3^-5, younger with adult help. Containing more than 120 ideas, this handy volume arms parents, teachers, and day care personnel with a wealth of great water activities for youngsters. One chapter is devoted to each of six different water settings--pool and lake, ocean and beach, kiddie pool, slides and sprinklers, bathtub, and water table--with other chapters focusing on water-related activities, toys, games, and arts and crafts. For each activity, Warner includes safety tips, a list of materials, and simple but thorough directions. She also suggests appropriate age levels and variations designed primarily to make the activity more challenging. Black-and-white drawings--sometimes cartoons, sometimes instructional diagrams--appear on nearly every page. Some of the games and activities are "old hat" and others are too simple to hold kids' attention, but most are imaginative and can be used with a variety of ages. Lauren Peterson
