There are two companion CDs for this awesome 150 page text. The speakers are all either native Mauritanians or Mauritanians who have immigrated to the United States. And the passages are read as if they were meant for natives. Fortunately, with both the Arabic and Romanized transcripts in hand, comprehension will be easier.
This book was published by Dunwoody Press in 2008. And I believe it can be purchased, along with the audio materials, directly from their website (at a reasonable price). They have an entire series of books (with accompanying audio CDs) for rare Arabic dialects.
Overall, I am really impressed with the format of this book. I wish all of my dialect references followed the same, easy-to-use layout of this book. A word of caution: I think the people who will benefit the most from this book are those who have already studied Arabic for a few years and are somewhat familiar with either North African or Iraqi dialects. A little bit of French wouldn't hurt either. Basically, this book is not for beginners, but it is very rewarding for advanced students.
