... it didn't marry easily with it's two ends. Something got lost in the template for it's counterparts resulting in misaligned connecting tubes by 3/8's of an inch. An avoidable, manufacturing quality control issue.

Now, fighting the sturdy and rigid construction of this rack is no easy task. And maybe I was unlucky in this particular item. But I ended up having to use metal files to expand the feeding taper on the "male" end, create a taper on the inside of the "female" end, then soap both surfaces, use a wooden carpenters clamp w/shim for the male side to compensate for uneven pressure, squeeze just till the pipe started to crush then whack the end of the rack with a heavy, soft rubber mallet, then touchup with rustproof flat black and presto! ... an hour later. Also, the air deflector is sub-par-flimsy. Don't over tighten or it may crack, or use it as a template to custom make one from aluminum plate.

Considering the relative higher cost of comparably designed racks, and the undeniable ruggedness of this one, I would have spent at least another $150 or more for a final 66" X 39" dimension. I guess it was worth the hour spent making it work.

5 stars for the rack itself, (less one for the unexpected workout)

I purchased this rack from Amazon and it arrived quickly. I first mounted it to the tower on my boat to hold camping gear for a river cruise that we did. It worked great for that. I then purchased the extention and mounted the rack onto my suburban for a Yellowstone camping trip. It worked very well. Assembly was very easy, all of the holes lined up and I had no problems. It is very stout, but not too heavy. I am very happy with my roof rack.

My sister and I put this rack with 2 extenders on the roof of her 1994 Chevy Suburban. The rack holds lots of stuff and looks cool.

As a family with two kids and two dogs, I found my vehicle constantly without space for travel. Especially when camping and visiting family out of state, times when we would need both gear and dogs at the same time. This rack along with Thule Complete CrossRoad Systemand SportRack A21033 Roof Basket Net became the ideal solution for me. Personally I leave this on my Jeep at all times, since its cumbersome to remove. I found that on average I lost less than 1 mpg when unloaded and traveling highway speeds.

I love this thing! I bought it for my cross country road trip and it has been great. I put two huge footlockers on top of it with two ratchet straps and it stayed put the whole way. The only gripe I have is that the hardware, the bolts, weren't long enough! (I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra). I ended up having to go to home depot and buying longer ones and having my husband custom make them at work. All in all it's easy to put together which gave me doubts but so far it has lasted from the salty airs of CA all the way through rain and snow blizzards!

Ordered this for my husband to use on his 2002 yukon denali. Great fit, easy installation and looks very sporty. The price was great compared to other sites/products and the fast shipping was another plus!

It's OK, it seemed that it was made well, but little too small. If you decide to get this, just go ahead and purchase the extension as well. It will NOT work with Malone roof rack bars, it does not sit right on them.

Unless I missed it somewhere on the carton, nothing says Thule. Anywhere. Not even on the product. And to tell the truth, I based my purchase decision slightly on the Thule branding. Not that I need to see the name on the rack. I just want to be sure its a Thule.

Otherwise, its a nice product. I bought the extension because I needed the extra capacity. I have read that it takes abit of work hammering and bending and forcing to get out to fit together. Well, the truth is....

Yes. It takes some force and hammering. Enough said.

The item also does NOT sit straight. Once the extension is on the rails are crooked. Its worth the price.

Update Jan2013, The basket attaches to the rack with supplied clamps. The clamps use a plastic knob to secure it in place. The 5 of the 8 knobs failed! The nut that is embedded into the plastic knob stripped and the track cannot be removed. And what's worse is that it now cannot tighten either! I had to cut the knobs off. So the basket is sitting in the garage now unable to be used. Unless I fabricate my own clamp and fasteners.

But at least it gives me a chance to remove the RUST and repaint. Yes, rust after only 6 months. Very disappointed.

From 4 to 3 Stars. I almost want to go less.
