When you’re canyoneering, you’ll be exploring deep inside the earth’s corridors and climbing or rappelling across cliff faces. It will push you to your physical and mental limits. It’s adventuring at its most extreme! Unfortunately, canyoneering gear also comes with a pretty extreme price tag. We designed the Canyon 2100 to be an affordable beginner canyoneering pack so that you can discover for yourself if it’s an adventure you want to make a part of your lifestyle without breaking the bank. This versatile backpack will get you and all your gear from the top of the ridge to bottom of the canyon and back again with room for your rope, hardware, dry storage, and more. Load the Canyon2100 up with all the necessities and the pack will still ride tightly and comfortably; it has a contoured harness with chest adjustment so you can run and jump without fear of losing anything. It even comes with its own 20 Liter dry bag that floats and is an easy to spot bright yellow color.

I chose this pack because the price point was really reasonable for someone who's not sure how into overnight hiking they might get, and because it is orange. I hike alone with my dog about 1/3 of the time, and the orange color is a great safety feature not only for hiking in areas where they may be people hunting, but also in case you are injured and need something to make yourself visible. That, and it came with a rain fly and dry bag at no extra cost. Awesome!
One of the features I really like is that there's a key fob/clip in the zipper pocket on the top of the pack with a quick release button - so the ring stays on my keys when I'm not hiking and I can take just my house keys when I need them, without worrying they're going to get lost in the bag because they are clipped inside. I also do a lot of photography, and I like that I can strap my tripod to the bottom of the back on the outside with ease.
On my overnight trip, here's what I packed:
3L bladder, full
Extra water bottle in side pocket
1 change of clothes
Tarp + rope
Sleeping Bag (in a compression sack)
Food for 2 people and a dog
Camera (Canon 60D - kinda heavy!)
There are a few things I wish could be tweaked or added:
-Straps above the mesh side pockets to help secure tall water bottles and/or to secure trekking poles to the sides
-A pocket on the waist strap to put quick access items. It would be great if the built in key fob was in a pocket on the waste strap, instead of the top. My front door requires keys to deadbolt when I leave, and there's no way to put the keys into the very top of the pack when you are already wearing it. Ideally, a waist strap pocket would be big enough for my phone as well. There's no really convenient pocket on here for my phone.
For the most part, I really like this pack and have gotten great use out of it.
-A bungee strap or two across the main body of the pack would also be helpful for random items as needed.
I really like this pack and have gotten great use out of it. For $60 I can't really complain about anything! As I get into overnight hiking - especially if I am doing something without my partner to help carry some of the heavier items - I could see needing a pack larger than this 35L.
The canister fits pretty will in the pack's main compartment, with sleeping bag in its own bottom compartment. There is just barely enough extra room around the sides of the canister to stuff something, well, stuffable! I was able to stuff a whole tent around it with a bit of effort. There is room on top for some sundry items, like a whole camping pot, and I was able to cinch the bag closed. See the attached pic for proof of its hauling capability. I was able to take a weekend's worth of food (in a huge Garcia bear canister), a cook pot, fuel, stove, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, water essentials, first aid kit, a dozen or so other items and a whole 2.5 person tent (packed in 3 different spots on the pack). That's on top of randomly needing to strap my coat in when I got hot, too.
The pack is comfortable, VERY TOUGH, and versatile. I'm glad I got it, because its quality definitely exceeds its pricetag.
This was the second pack I bought from Teton.
My primary use for this pack is as an extended daypack or winter daypack.
Keep in mind, that the internal frame is a plastic TPU sheet. That being said, under heavy load it can and will bend/flex. The only problem with this setup is a load greater than around 20lbs. It works, but the waist belt won't catch as much of the load as it could, stressing your shoulders.
Under that weight this pack is my go to long range day pack.
My loadout for a 15-20 mile day hike with this pack includes:
3 liter water
food for 1.5 days
25 feet cord
first aid with epipens
Anker battery charger
MSR stove with small canister
Sawyer mini water filter
Headlamp and other incidentals
After that I've plenty of room and at that weight the pack rides like a dream.
Thank you again Teton. I have 3 Teton packs. The Oasis 1100, Canyon 2100, and the Explorer 4000.
Just debating on what my 4th will be haha!
