Top customer reviews
So far I've also used it on multiple hikes and hunting trips through thick brush and between 3 deer I've packed out over 200 lb of venison in the mountains in Utah and Washington. I've thrown it through the washer to clean out all of the blood and it came out like new.
The only wear I've seen on mine is a couple of threads have loose on the bottom where it hides the rain fly, but it doesn't affect anything serious on the pack. It's already well outlived its price and It's got to have at least enough life to redo everything I've already done with it based on its current condition.
great price (gives you more peace of mind when being rough with it)
great size, perfect for carry-on (taken on around 10+ flights, never a problem)
fairly light when empty
Convenient storage on top pouch with an underside zip up pocket for more protected items.
Pretty comfortable, even when filled with 60+ pounds of meat.
Holds Mountain Dew well.
I wish the waist fabric things were the smaller size, as I don't keep it buckled in very often and they get in the way if I forget to buckle them behind the pack.
Did not come with delicious bacon.
One of the drink holders is slightly smaller than the other, making it more effort to get my large size (in diameter) nalgene bottle in it. It still fits, but it's hard to put in one handed while its still on my back, the other pocket is easier like I said.
The internal frame bars are hard to get back in, I washed it once with them in and took them out for a second wash, I wish I had left them in both times. I had to stick my hand on the inside and guide them past some material that was inside the frame pocket.
-Reasonably priced compared to other similar backpacks.
-Pretty good capacity. I was able to stuff it with 3 pairs of shoes, 2 pairs of pants, 3 dresses, 2 cardigans, 5 shirts, 2 skirts, scarf, underwear, socks, and toiletries and still take it as carry on for my flights.
-Can be taken as carry on if not filled to capacity* (see additional notes about this in cons)
-Internal frame was amazing. It really made the weight feel bearable when I was carrying this thing for several miles.
- Comes with warranty that doesn't make you jump through ridiculous hoops to claim.
-The top of the bag under the snap on lid is a drawstring. The little plastic piece to tighten the drawstring snapped on me immediately the first time I opened this bag up.
-Ability to take this as a carry on item will be highly dependent on how lenient the people at the gate are. I flew lots of budget airlines around Europe, the type that tend to be strict about luggage size. Most of these airlines tend to allow a max length of 55cm (21.65 in). While backpacks tend to be able to get by these restrictions because they're squishable soft bags, the internal frame of this pack (which is non-compressible) slightly exceeds this max length. I was able to sneak this pack onto all of my flights but I did have some eyebrows raised and warnings issued about checking it in next time from gate attendants, even with the pack not at full capacity.
-I'm not a serious backpacker, but I did take this pack on a camping trip once. The sleeping bag compartment won't fit your standard cheap sleeping bag. You'll need to get one of the compact ones for backpacking if you plan on using that compartment.
I took this backpack on a second European trip. Given my previous experience, I was able to pack a little lighter this time around had no issues with taking it as a carry on, even on the budget airlines. I think unzipping the separator between the lower and main compartment was very helpful in squishing my things down to make the pack appear smaller, and thus escaping scrutiny from flight staff. I've been able to take this as my carry on with WOW (with the larger carry on item purchase), Norwegian, Vueling, Iberia, and AirFrance.
I was also able to contact customer service to replace the broken drawstring plastic piece fairly easily.
