So far I've also used it on multiple hikes and hunting trips through thick brush and between 3 deer I've packed out over 200 lb of venison in the mountains in Utah and Washington. I've thrown it through the washer to clean out all of the blood and it came out like new.
The only wear I've seen on mine is a couple of threads have loose on the bottom where it hides the rain fly, but it doesn't affect anything serious on the pack. It's already well outlived its price and It's got to have at least enough life to redo everything I've already done with it based on its current condition.
great price (gives you more peace of mind when being rough with it)
great size, perfect for carry-on (taken on around 10+ flights, never a problem)
fairly light when empty
Convenient storage on top pouch with an underside zip up pocket for more protected items.
Pretty comfortable, even when filled with 60+ pounds of meat.
Holds Mountain Dew well.
I wish the waist fabric things were the smaller size, as I don't keep it buckled in very often and they get in the way if I forget to buckle them behind the pack.
Did not come with delicious bacon.
One of the drink holders is slightly smaller than the other, making it more effort to get my large size (in diameter) nalgene bottle in it. It still fits, but it's hard to put in one handed while its still on my back, the other pocket is easier like I said.
The internal frame bars are hard to get back in, I washed it once with them in and took them out for a second wash, I wish I had left them in both times. I had to stick my hand on the inside and guide them past some material that was inside the frame pocket.
I have taken this on several trips in California. From Joshua Tree to Yosemite, this pack is perfect for 2 night trips. My typical backpack load is a little hefty, around 50lb. I am about 5'9". I carry a Teton 0 F/-18C Sleeping bag (probably more rated for 20F comfort), a bass pro tent, jacket, food, lantern, flashlights, and lots of water (2 32 Oz contigo auto seals, and a camelbak 3L backpack).
Be ready for your hips or shoulders to be sore with a lot of weight, because you probably aren't used to it and you need the pack really tight on your hips to take the weight off of your back and shoulders. I end up putting my hand between my chest and the straps and bending forward a bit, it seems very comfortable, as well as using 2 hiking poles, it is very nice to use hiking polls and let your arms feel some of the work out too.
Although you can ration water, I drink plentifully, and therefore require a refill daily for my excursions. I end up packing my pack pretty darn full between all the redundant gear and water and food. The tent and sleeping bag go on the outside, which torques your back more than you should be doing. Next time, I am going to try going with a hammack to save space, weight, and help my back out a little bit. The sleeping bag is too big for the compartment underneath, so I store towels, socks, pillow, and paracord in the bottom zipper.
Unfortunately this pack got destroyed on my motorcycle because a strap was flying in the wind and got caught in my sprocket. It ripped the top part up and spilled all my stuff out onto a freeway like dumping your laundry out of a sack. I would really not recommend using this on a motorcycle due to that risk. Other than that, the backpack lasted very well, the zippers felt strong, the straps were good, and it was comfortable. I hope to go on longer trips later in life, and as long as I can go with others who can share the load of tents and lamps, I have no doubt I could ultimately camp 5 days with this (although that is a stretch).
my only complaint is that there are no side zippers to access the bottom of the pack, so you have to be aware of the order of items you stuff in the sack. You should be able to access the main compartment from the bottom compartment but I forget, and I wouldn't count on it. Other than that pet peave, everything else is great.
Plenty of Room
Side Storage = awesome for little odds and ends
Can fit on the overhead of an airplane
Can get pretty heavy if fully loaded
Overall, this bag is great. BUY IT!
