Editorial Reviews

Slavek is a versatile and powerful acoustic guitar player, whose compositions represent a synthesis of Traditional American Contemporary and eastern European styles. He is joined here by three veterans of the New Acoustic Music scene: Bela Fleck on banjo, Stuart Duncan on fiddle and mandolin, and me on acoustic bass. The product of this union of styles and personalities is a smooth and colorful variety of textures and tempos that range form the lovely 'Great Season Waltz' to the exuberant and fiery 'Gypsyland.' Slavek pays tribute to Traditional American music, which was so much and influence on his own playing, with a very lively version of 'Bill Cheatham,' and plaintive trio rendering of `Bonaparte Crossing the Rhine,' and the solo version of 'Home Sweet Home.' Slavek's good humor and animated warmth made us all happy to lend our personal support to his project. His tunes have melodic freshness, that made them very satisfying to play, and very natural harmonic flow that gave all of us plenty of room to really stretch out. Slavek, you done good, buddy. --Mark Schatz (Producer of Spring in the Old Country)

Format: Audio CD
This 1991 date clocks in a just over 37 minutes in length, but its brevity in no way diminishes its loveliness. This is modern instrumental bluegrass at its very finest, featuring such masters of the form as Bela Fleck and Stuart Duncan. Hanzlik, a native of Czechoslovakia, is a first-rate guitarist and composer, and deserves a far wider audience than he has thus far captured.
