We finally get Cody's book!!! I have been waiting for his story since I first read about him. The reformed playboy who's friends haven't accepted this yet.
Cody is the fun one, the guy that everyone wants to have fun with but not take seriously. The manwhore. While he has dated many woman, he doesn't think he deserve this title as he is always upfront with the woman that this is just a good time.
In high school he had one night with Sidney. Afraid of his feelings, he ditches her the next day and has regretted it ever since. Ten years later they meet and even though she hates him with a passion, the chemistry is still there. She comes to him with a proposition and he uses that to get close to her again.
These are two people who have commitment issues and Sidney can't get over the hurt Cody caused back in high school. Once Cody finally accepts that Sidney is his "forever", nothing will stop this determined cowboy to claim her. Thank goodness for nosy friends also!
We're back at the Double S (for Studs) Ranch, and instead of picking up where she left us in the second novel, this installment is set within the same time-frame as the first novel, and it's hot and handsome Cody Silver's turn at bat, so to speak. Yes, Sabrina York is at her snarky best in this novel too and somehow manages to make the reader laugh out loud one minute and cry along with her characters the next.
The novel opens with Cody getting an eyeful of a gorgeous redhead getting out of her classic red Mustang; he's only seeing her from behind and as he's mentally checking our her sexy assets, while wondering who she is and how he can hit on her, she eventually turns around and Cody is shocked. It's Sidney Stevens, and in the 10 years since he last saw and had sex with her, no other woman, and there have been lots of other women, has even come close to measuring up to her. Unfortunately for Sidney, the night after she had sex with Cody in the back of that same red Mustang, he dated another girl, breaking Sidney's heart, and she's hated him ever since. She's even tried to avoid running into him on her rare trips home.
Cody hopes and wonders whether she's here to finally forgive him, but he couldn't be more wrong. She's here to see his sister, Claire, to book a date and make arrangements for a bachelorette party at the Double S for her sister, Hanna, who Sidney is thoroughly convinced is planning to marry the wrong man. When she learns that Claire won't be back in town for a week, she's forced to work with Cody and the arrangements she needs to make are rather strange coming from the maid of honor. During the bachelorette party weekend, she wants Cody to help scuttle her sister's engagement by supplying someone who is actually the right man for her sister. This plan affords Cody the rare opportunity to try to get Sidney to forgive him and hopefully get another chance to bed her and finally, after 10 long years, get her out of his system.
Sidney knows she's at risk here, and that Cody has the capacity to break her heart all over again. She's carried a torch for him since high school, and since then, no man has measured up to him either, even though their brief relationship ended badly. She's still livid over his betrayal of her and at her absolute snarkiest in dealing with him, and no one does snarky dialogue better than Sabrina York. But, if you've read any of Sabrina York's other novels, you already have an inkling about how she handles best laid plans and characters who doth protest too much, and the many complications that arise between the still-unattached, and semi-attached friends and family, plus the antics of the raunchy female ranch guests in this story make this novel a tour de force in plotting.
If you have read Sabrina York before, you also know that she's a master at writing sizzling hot sex scenes, and again, she doesn't disappoint in this novel. If you like your romance novels sweet and chaste, this is not the novel for you. Ms. York's skill at managing all the characters featured in the first two novels and the ups and downs of their relationships, in addition to Cody and Sidney's featured relationship, is remarkably deft and well-written.
Find yourself a comfortable place to read, get your favorite beverage, a box of tissues, an electric fan, and get ready for one hot, touching, funny, snarky and memorable wild ride at the Double S Ranch.
But, this book makes a couple of turns to get us to the REALLY good stuff. First, the timeframe of Cody and Sidney’s story closely follows the first book (Stripped Down), in which Logan and Hanna found their moment. And we are jumping back to the planning of the bachelorette party that was the main event. See, Hanna’s party was planned by her sister, Sidney, and when she appears at Cody’s ranch to finalize the details, Cody is thrown back to the last time he saw her, and the damage she did to him when she left him.
And oh the tension between these two is strong: poor Sidney realizing she’s still angry with Cody, and that perhaps, maybe, oh, okay, she does still care and he’s grown up to be one heck of a specimen. And, yes, she knows the reputation that follows him, with discarded conquests scattered across the stableyard like old straw. But, she really never was able to forget him. And, he will be key to her showing Hanna just how wrong her upcoming marriage is. Poor Cody, never quite sure what hit him, when he realizes that he never forgot or stopped wanting Sidney, but he’s got to find a way to show her…..
Heart, heat, humor all mix together to bring the story to light. Cody and Sidney who, despite their inability to just say what they mean at first, are truly adorable, and even as everyone seems to be embroiled in ‘something’ else, they manage to take center stage. Bringing the whole series together with opportunities to see (again) characters and couples from earlier books, fixes these friends and lovers in your heart, and on your shelf. York’s ability to keep a lightness and balance in her tales, even when real issues and concerns arise make for wonderful and engaging moments, peppered with unforgettable dialogue, laugh out loud moments and plenty of steam.
