Several years ago i had purchased the "old" laser tag system from Jakks. They eventually broke after about two years of use and i was delighted to find that they had rereleased them. These laser tag pistols are small and light but dont let that deceive you! They are reliable, very sturdy, and they have surprising range and accuracy you can easily hit somebody at 300 ft. The gun itself has a reload, reset and neutralize button. After 25 "shots" the gun clicks empty and you have to hit the reload button to get more ammo. The reset button is annoying being right were a right handed persons thumb would be and is easy to accidentally hit. Its ok though because you can only reset the other player by pointing your gun at them and pressing the reset button. If you hit the other person by pressing the neutralize button then their gun is frozen(meaning they cant shoot) for 15 seconds. They work really well and though they are better for close combat, I do not advise using them inside because the IR beams bounce off white walls easily and you dont even have to aim.
-sturdy yet light
-strong (they have been dropped several times and still work perfectly.)
-better range than it says on the box
-nice loud noises( pro or a con)
-short wires( about two feet) so if you have long arms its best to put the sensor on your shooting arm
-cant play indoors very well
-hard to tell when you've hit someone
-loud noises( pro or a con)
I would recommend these to any one who wants an inexpensive laser tag game that will last a long time and keep the fun factor.

I picked these up hoping for an IR laser. Alas, these do not use lasers, and says so on the instructions included with the toy. This is actually a very good thing. If they were lasers, kids would almost never score a hit on the sensors. As my video shows, they are not very good for inside play. However, I did test them outside on a sunny day and with proper aim got the sensors to register hits at a range of ~150 feet. They fire invisible IR lights so are not a danger to kids' eyes.
As much as they might be frowned upon for possibly teaching kids that guns are toys, they have the benefit of engaging kids and getting them up and moving outside (no small feat in the Xbox world in which we live). Notice what I said in the video, these do not work well inside for many false positive hits. In general I think it is a cool little toy and would have loved to have it when I was a kid. I shall check with my sister to see if she thinks it is appropriate for my nephews, I think it will add to the stomp rockets as a toy that gets them up and outside.
