HD Video, Miniature Size & Dash Cam Functionality Make This the Best Bang-for-Buck Mini Camera on the Market
The Mobius ActionCam is everything you could ever ask for in a mini camera. At 2x1x1 inches big and weighing only 1.2oz, it’s both smaller and lighter than the average deck of playing cards - and packed full with an incredible array of features. It can record video in super sharp 1080p HD resolution and includes WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) for recording in low light situations. A time lapse option allows you to take still photographs at timed intervals, and for recording fast-moving scenes (such as when driving) the camera comes equipped with a setting for shooting at 720p and 60 frames per second - ensuring you can spot even the briefest details during playback. It can also be connected to your computer in order to shoot live video.
One of the most popular uses of the Mobius is for use in your car as a powerful dash cam. With the Mobius at your side, roadside disputes no longer need to rely on word of mouth, harassment by authorities can be documented on video and audio, and hit-and-run perpetrators can now be identified with ease.
HD Video Recording
The Mobius ActionCam records in either 1080p HD resolution at 30fps, or in 720p at 60fps. By shooting in 60fps, you can achieve excellent slow-motion results and analyze footage frame-by-frame. Additionally the bitrate for the Mobius is nearly 18,000 kbps, which is over 3 times higher than the recommended bitrate for HD YouTube videos. All of these features for under $100 makes the Mobius one of the most cost-effective video cameras on the market.
131 Degree Wide-Angle Lens
The wide-angle lens Mobius Camera comes with a Japanese built glass lens (not removable) that has an approximate horizontal field of view of 131 degrees with minimal fish-eye distortion.
Top customer reviews
Small and can be mounted unobtrusively.
Easily set to overwrite oldest files to make it a continuous running dash cam
Good recording in daylight so so on night
Works with SD cards over 32gb (you need one card of 32gb or less to do the firmware updates)
Has a great many useful settings that are easily set with the mobius software app
The less than good
Rubberized case is a forever more sticky mess after being exposed to daylight sun
Your on your own to locate the software to change setting and update the camera (Dash Cam Talk keeps current on these devices)
Software is M$ Windows only, there does appear to be an android app as well.
Runs hot so may be adversely affected if you cannot keep out of sunlight exposure.
The device is really unintuitive. The only interface is 3 buttons and a blinking LED that can display 3 different colors. No manual is included and what is available on their website is a long, text heavy PDF that appears to be written by a layperson. All of the instructions in it are written for PC users, and literally the only part it talks about Macs is that Macs are supported. A lot of information isn't even in the manual, in which case you'll have to dig through forums to get the info.
Want to format the memory card? Plug the power cable in. Hold the "M" button then unplug the power cable while holding it. After some yellow blinks and 3 red blinks, let go of the "M" button.
Want to change a setting such as flip the camera upside down? On a PC you just have to plug the camera into the computer after installing the Mobius app, change the setting you want in the app, and it's done. Not as convenient as having a built in LCD, but not horrible.
It's much less convenient to change a setting if you use a Mac. First, you have to download and install an app some Italian guy wrote. Then you have to unplug the camera and turn it off. Hold the M down and while holding it, hold the Power button. After you get 3 red blinks you can let go of the M and Power buttons. Then you have to plug the camera into the computer. Open the Mobius App and then import the config file into it from the Mobius drive that hopefully showed up on the computer. Change the setting you want in the app at this time. Then you export it back to the Mobius drive and eject the drive. Then unplug the camera from the computer. Then turn the camera off, hold the M button, and then also hold the Power button until you see 3 red blinks. Then you can let go of the M and Power buttons. All those steps are required every time you want to change a setting with a Mac!
One potential issue for some users is this unit is not weather resistant. You can buy an add-on silicon shield thing that goes around the unit and protects it from dirt and splashes but it's kind of expensive.
Another issue is there's no built in way to reposition the viewing angle or adjust the horizon line of the camera. You'll have to buy some kind of ball head type device to do that, which adds considerably to the bulk of the unit.
Personally, unless the size is really important, I would just get a Drift Stealth 2 if you want a device you can use without needing to refer to a manual. I got mine for less than the price of this unit, and it has camera horizon adjustment, an LCD, wifi capabilities to view videos on your phone, and can be set to work as a dash cam.
1. Is small, so I can mount it easily on the front turn signal of my bike.
2. Has looped recording.
3. Can start recording whenever it receives power. I connected mine to my headlight so that as soon as I turn on my bike it starts recording.
4. Has a nice, wide angle on the shot.
5. Easy to get on and off my bike with the snap-in bracket.
6. Easy to view files on my PC by plugging into USB cable.
I have attached a short video that it recorded while riding.
I am completely happy with my purchase and I received it crazy fast! I got the email that it shipped yesterday and I got it today. I also signed up for the Amazon Prime trial for the 2 day shipping and am glad I did because I couldnt wait to try it out. My Blad 200qx flies just fine with it onboard.
