The G10/Carbon Fiber combo is just "OK" looking. Not amazing, but not bad by any means. I also wasn't a fan of the finish on the blade... probably because it was unfinished, had the machine lines on it and that's it. I would have liked to see them at least smooth out the lines from grinding the blade.
Mine came with a very serious amount of side-to-side blade play that was unacceptable and I couldn't do anything to help it.
It also had a noticeable amount of lock stick that seems to be a common, albeit minimal, problem with the Sage 5 in general.
The lockbar took a lot of pressure to actuate and unlock the knife.
I have handled other Sage 5's and I know that the issues I had with mine are not common, but I must share my experience.
I've avoided getting a Sage since the series started years ago and now that one's available with the compression lock I decided to take the plunge. It's another excellent offering from the Taichung plant with top notch fit and finish for a production knife.
The blade is sized properly to make an excellent slicer, the ergos are perfect for my big/medium to small/large hands and it fits very nicely in the pocket.
If someone only wanted one edc knife this would be an excellent choice for man or woman.
The compression lock, in my opinion, is an ideal lock for someone that isn't necessarily handy with knives. It's very easy to keep the fingers out of the way of the blade when you unlock and close the blade. It's simply a safer lock system than a liner lock or frame lock for the unattentive user.
It would make an excellent gift.
