ALREADY one of the best values in our popular byrd line, the Cara Cara2 lightweight has been completely reengineered to yield the new, improved Cara Cara2. Improved features at very affordable prices make the Cara Cara2 lightweight one of the best values on the market. Full-flat-ground blade for enhanced edge geometry and cutting performance. Bi-directional textured FRN handle that offers a superior grip and increased control and backlock with David Boye dent. Phosphor bronze Pivot washers for even smoother blade operation. Spine and choil jimping for precise control during use. Four-position pocket clip that supports all possible carry configurations.
The Cara Cara2, a compact and lightweight folding knife from innovative cutlery company Spyderco, has been reengineered to include a full flat-ground blade for enhanced edge geometry and cutting precision. Other updates and improvements include a proprietary Bi-Directional Textured FRN handle, for improved grip and control, and phosphor bronze pivot washers for smooth blade operation. Similar to the prior model, the Cara Cara2 retains spine and choil jimping and a four-position clip for a variety of carrying configurations. Skeletonized nested handle liners add strength while keeping weight to a minimum, and screw-together construction is both sturdy and easy to clean and maintain.
The 8Cr13MoV steel blade has a comet-shaped hole, and the jimped crosshatching alone the spine helps the thumb's grip on the top of the blade for precise, comfortable, nonslip use. A finger choil enhances the ergonomic stainless steel handle, and the mid-positioned back lock has a David Boye cut-away dent, a safety feature allowing tight gripping without accidentally releasing the lock.

Thinking beyond established knife industry practices has allowed Spyderco to introduce new innovations, including one-hand opening, serrations on a folder, and a clip to attach a knife to a pocket. Spyderco remains dedicated to researching and developing improved, better-performing materials with function and reliability, and its unique cutlery line is a result of designing ergonomic, functional tools. The company puts its new products through rigorous testing prior to release, examining edge retention with a CATRA machine, looking for rust development with Q-FOG, checking the force needed to open and close a knife, and analyzing numerous other technical details.

In my opinion if your on a budget and not a knife snob and don't mind it being a USA design but manufactured in China it is a great little knife at 1/3 the price of the Endura.
Action is pretty good too. I really don't see given the price why this would not be your first purchase. An every day carry knife for actual work where you can use the tool hard and not worry about blowing a lot of money.
I heard that Byrd is the budget version of Spyderco so I tried it out. I love this knife every bit as much as My spydercos. This knife is a great deal for the price. The blade might not be as polished as a spyderco but I for one dont really care about that. This is a razor sharp knife made of good steel with a comfortable handle for a great price. I will definitely consider a Byrd again the next time I am shopping for a good working knife.
This one has pretty smooth operation with a simple lock mechanism. You can roll the nice big blade open one handed without any issue. For the size the overall profile is pretty thin. The blade came real sharp, but had a bit of a burr on the tip. It holds a decent edge and sharpens easy. The blade is kind of thin and flexy compared to more expensive offerings. The handle's texture provides good grip / traction and there's some jimping at the blade base for added cutting traction. The pocket clip feels thin and a bit flimsy.
Again for the price, you would be hard pressed to find a better "cheap" knife.
