Bi-directional textured FRN handle that offers a superior grip and increased control and backlock with David Boye dent. Phosphor bronze Pivot washers for even smoother blade operation. Spine and choil jimping for precise control during use. Four-position pocket clip that supports all possible carry configurations.
The Cara Cara2, a compact and lightweight folding knife from innovative cutlery company Spyderco, has been reengineered to include a full flat-ground blade for enhanced edge geometry and cutting precision. Other updates and improvements include a proprietary Bi-Directional Textured FRN handle, for improved grip and control, and phosphor bronze pivot washers for smooth blade operation. Similar to the prior model, the Cara Cara2 retains spine and choil jimping and a four-position clip for a variety of carrying configurations. Skeletonized nested handle liners add strength while keeping weight to a minimum, and screw-together construction is both sturdy and easy to clean and maintain.
The 8Cr13MoV steel blade has a comet-shaped hole, and the jimped crosshatching alone the spine helps the thumb's grip on the top of the blade for precise, comfortable, nonslip use. A finger choil enhances the ergonomic stainless steel handle, and the mid-positioned back lock has a David Boye cut-away dent, a safety feature allowing tight gripping without accidentally releasing the lock.

Thinking beyond established knife industry practices has allowed Spyderco to introduce new innovations, including one-hand opening, serrations on a folder, and a clip to attach a knife to a pocket. Spyderco remains dedicated to researching and developing improved, better-performing materials with function and reliability, and its unique cutlery line is a result of designing ergonomic, functional tools. The company puts its new products through rigorous testing prior to release, examining edge retention with a CATRA machine, looking for rust development with Q-FOG, checking the force needed to open and close a knife, and analyzing numerous other technical details.

That said, I have one issue. I cannot get the screws holding the pocket clip on, to unscrew. It's fastened on at the tip end of the handle, meaning you carry it tip up. On some knives, that can be dangerous, if they open in your pocket, you can be cut reaching in. I don't think this Cara Cara 2 will open, it seems tight enough to stay closed, but all of my other knives carry the other way, and I want to change this one just because I'm used to the mechanics of grabbing the pivot end of my knives. Needless to say, on a knife that brags about how you can put the clip in 4 places, it's frustrating to not actually have that option.
So...be aware, you may destroy a T6 bit or two, or destroy some screw heads, trying to swap the clip around. Other than that...great knife!
The reason I give it four stars and not five are a few nagging "flaws" I've found. First and foremost is the very stiff action even after opening and closing hundreds of times. I've cleaned and lubed the pivots and it is as loose as can be while still being solid at lock up. It must be this knife because my Byrd Meadowlark 2 is much smoother (it got 5 stars from me). I also find the handle grip to be too abrasive for doing a lot of work bare handed. It's great with gloves on but starts digging into your skin bare handed after a while. The smother G10 scales would be a better choice for bare hand use. Finally the "comet" hole on mine (again not an issue on my Meadowlark 2) came with very sharp edges that combined with the stiff action cut into my thumb with repeated opening. I actually took some emery cloth and smoothed this area out just a smidge to make things better.
All in all I like this knife, but I think I got a Friday Afternoon production run because my other Byrd knife does not suffer from the same issues.
