Spyderco's dramatic Manix2 is a full-service folding knife that features our improved, patented Ball Bearing Lock. The hardened ball bearing that forms the heart of this high-strength lock is encased in a polymer cage that makes ambidextrous operation and release of the lock even easier. The lock is housed in a handle constructed of stainless steel liners and G-10 handle scales that feature strategically placed texturing at the edges for an exceptional grip. The blade is a Full Flat Grind and CPM S30V steel features textured jimping above a super-sized Spyderco Round Hole. These details guarantee positive one-handed deployment of the blade with either hand and a secure platform for the thumb during use. A three-screw, deep-pocket clip supports left or right-hand tip-up carry and a lined lanyard hole allows the attachment of safety lanyards or thongs.

The Spyderco Manix 2 is absolutely a masterpiece of engineering and executed to perfection. And its nice to see its still made right here on Earth!a little place called Golden Colorado,USA i believe as its etched right on the blade tang. Very nice and an incredible bargain at under $90. Especially considering this is the latest generation model made with a Full Flat Grind of excellent S30V steel not the hollow ground 154 CM of previous model i was expecting. Only prob is i would have ordered the fully honed edge instead of the combo edge if i knew that. Oh well,at this price I'll order another and the XL version soon.
This truly is a very well designed and built knife. Beautiful and grippy G-10 scales over full stainless liners with excellent jimping everywhere its needed.and what a great handle shape.its close to perfection and gives many grip options with its dual finger choils and jimped thumb ramp on the blade.
The 1/8" by 3 3/8" long blade is scalpel sharp and has beautiful finish between satin and brushed.and the 14 mm spyder hole is the perfectly simple and elegant method of deploying the blade thanks to the glassy smooth pivot and low friction characteristics of the incredibly strong, safe and secure ball bearing lock. Not completely sold on liner/frame locks,im a big fan of Spydercos ball bearing and compression locks, being stronger, safer and less likely to be unintentionally unlocked during rough handling. The ball lock engages a very deep ramp on the blade tang and wedges itself against a substantial spacer or "anvil" itself secured w two good sized screws.and you can bet all components are made from quality materials and properly hardened including the screws.something that cant be said for alot of imports even at comparable prices. This lock is simply not going to fail and has a lifetime of wear compensation engineered in. And you dont have to put your finger in the path of the blade to unlock like liner/frame locks. Outstanding design and buttery smooth if a little stiff to unlock due to a very strong spring.but thats fine.i prefer the extra security of knowing the lock has heavy pressure on it. Locks up bank vault tight with zero play in any direction.
The pocket clip is on par with the rest of the knife allowing a deep ride in pocket.
Overall the knife has excellent balance, handling and operation. Relatively slim and imminently comfortable and while its no lightweight (Spyderco has a lightweight model also) it is very lively and fast handling. Just about perfect. If you buy only one knife (sinful)this should be it. It does everything you could ask and does it very, very well. While i wouldnt consider this knife an overbuilt powerhouse ready for any hard use task you can imagine,it IS a WELL built knife able to take any reasonable abuse your likely to need this size and type knife for. Outstanding quality and value. Highly recommended.
Update -September 11,2015
Ive owned and carried this excellent knife a while now and felt like its a good time to update.
IMO there are about 5-8 knives i consider "must haves" for collectors and those that simply have a selection of knives for day to day use. Without a doubt the Spyderco Manix 2 is at the top of that list. And for those that just want one good knife to meet all of their needs, absolutely this is the one! Although i prefer and recommend the plain edge version, the partially serrated version has served me very well and comes in handy at times.
But whichever blade you choose, your sure to get an excellent knife thats capable, comfortable, versatile and durable. It really is a jack of all trades and its quality shines through in every possible way. And its made in the USA and costs less than $90!!! Trust me,you will not find a better knife for anywhere near that price. But if it just doesnt appeal to you, then try the Spyderco Para Military 2 for about $20 more. Between the two ,99% of you should be covered.
For those eyeing the Manix 2, buy it! You will never regret this purchase. Truly an exceptional knife at an outstanding price.
Aside from being misdescribed on Amazon, the knife I received is a very cool Spiderco and worthy of 5 stars. To be clear, I try to not punish a product rating if my criticism is solely about the sale or delivery experience and not based on product quality. If I could separately rate the sale experience I would go one or two stars because someone in the cloud should be shamed for the inaccurate or outdated product description.
With a price tag under $100, a product made with obvious care and expertise here in America, and materials that rival the most expensive knives in the world, I can't recommend this knife enough.
