The Spyderco Pacific salt black knife has a PlainEdge. It is rust free knife made from H1 steel that gets harder and tougher with use. The High-strength blade lock mechanism ensures safe, secure blade lockup. The black titanium pocket clip supports left or right side tip up carry.
Myth becomes reality with the Spyderco Pacific Salt rust-free knife. Conventional wisdom used to be that a knife with a powerful edge will rust. That's because steels that don't rust are usually unable to hold a cutting edge for any measurable amount of time. The Pacific Salt puts conventional wisdom to rest with the introduction of a steel called H1. The Japanese foundry that makes H1 uses 0.1 percent nitrogen instead of carbon to harden the steel, helping it reach a Rockwell hardness level of 57 to 58 RC. The result is an austenitic steel that doesn't require heat treatment, gets harder and tougher with use, and is absolutely impervious to rust.
This version of the Pacific Salt comes with a black-coated blade, lessening the steel's reflective qualities and subduing the blade's presence. Hollow-ground, the H1 blade is PlainEdge and coated in a long-lasting black carbonitride. It's similar in shape and size to Spyderco's best selling Endura model but with a more rounded tip for increased strength. The knife also includes a large 14mm round hole that makes one-handed opening easier even with gloved or wet hands. And the blade provides a secure, reliable blade lockup thanks to David Boye's specially designed locking lever dent.
All other steel components of the Pacific Salt have also been specially treated to make them impervious to rust and pitting. Textured in a Volcano Grip pattern, the black fiberglass handle has a grippy texture to ensure a slip-free grip. Finally, the Pacific Salt includes a reversible black titanium pocket clip that supports left- or right-side tip-up carry, along with a lanyard hole that keeps the knife safe around water.

I wipe it clean if I slice tomatoes or something for my sammich, sharpened a few times but mostly forget to take it out the pocket when I soaked it in sweat at work and just dump my damp pants with it still in the pocket when I get home. It is very light in weight, so it mostly fails to make a distinct "clonk" when dropped to carpeted floor either. Especially if still located inside a pair of wet pants.
And this knife is still running strong. No rust, no major malfunctions of any kind that I could think of right now. I use other bladed tools at work to cut various stuff, but this one still rides in my pocket without any effort. I check its presence automatically when getting ready to leave the house with... house keys, wallet, phone, my black Spyderco, work stuff, zipper, and then forget it.
Product descriptions are out there already, so not getting to those minor details. My personal opinion about this knife: One of my all time favorites as much as "full size" single bladed pocket knives go.
If I managed to destroy this knife somehow, misplace it... I would buy another one, yes sir I would.
Pros: holds an edge, still no movement on the blade to body connection, unable to rust, reliable, tough, super light, plastic doesn't break, minimal wear on the black coating, easy/smooth to open/close, nice tight clip, long blade
I have had one problem, the dang clip end is set into the plastic handle and after beating it all to hell, the clip twisted in its square inset, and rounded out the corners of the depression where the clip end sits, causing the clip to rotate either left or right relative to the knife. however, the clip can be switched to the other side of the knife, where it has not yet started this problem.
I get ocd about some stuff so that particular trait drives me a little bananas. glad they manufactured two sides for ambidextrous carries. I bought the knife in black thinking that the matte finish would dull the color and not spook the fish; works a little to well, hard to find the dang thing in the dark when you drop it. The knife is relatively long, but you know what they say about a man with a big knife.
