Product Description

Digital camouflage is the result of applying engineering psychology with the study of visual biophysics and human visual performance. Digital camouflage pattern is a mosaic of small connected micro-patterns, optically reducing the eye’s ability to detect and discern an object. Digital patterns were developed to enhance concealment for our men and women of the U.S. Military going into harm’s way protecting our freedom. The Para-Military2 has several changes over the classic version.  The G-10 handle is narrowed at the end improving the ergonomics. The handle and blade have been profiled thinner; removing uncomfortable angles when in the closed position.  It features a Compression Lock and an ambidextrous-friendly four way clip which carries tip-up/tip-down, left/right-hand and rests deeper in a pocket.  We kept the same high-performance CPM-S30V full flat-ground blade but we’ve also lengthened the blade’s tip and added additional surface jimping to both the spine and finger choil.  Implementation of a new Bushing Pivot System generates fluid action and more consistent manufacturing tolerances.  Larger lanyard gives more options for carry. Refinements to overall construction may not be drastic or even visible to the eye but from the G-10 textured handle to the CPM-S30V steel full flat blade, everything is sharper, smoother and guaranteed to provide performance and user comfort.

This knife literally shaves hairs... (I've got an unfortunately large bald spot on my arm to prove it.) I brushed the knife a few times against my arm to test its sharpness, however, it didn't seem to be overly effective. What I didn't realize was that the knife was cutting the hairs so well and cleanly that they were staying in place on my arm as the blade moved through them. After a few more strokes than strictly necessary (perhaps out of vexation), it occurred to me to brush the hairs on the test spot aside with my hand, which revealed first the enthusiastic grin of my embracing my new purchase followed immediately by a single raised eyebrow and audible deep sigh expressing the dumbfounding stupidity I was now feeling for using my own arm hairs to test blade sharpness. Yikes! It is probably the sharpest knife I've ever seen. I then did a paper test. You don't even have to slice, just push. You can't even hear the paper cutting. It is that sharp. If you ever lose your shaving razor, don't worry about it, you are covered. The lockup is excellent. The speed of opening is scary. Just be careful, it is fun to open the blade quickly. On one occasion, (while playing) my hand slipped just slightly and I merely touched the blade resulting in a little indent and micro abrasions on my thumb (kind of like a paper cut). That was after just touching the blade with a 1/2 pound or so of force (not slicing or running my thumb against it). Needless to say, I will not be playing with it anymore. It is just too sharp.

The only real complaint I have is that the knife is almost too good. I don't want to use it to cut anything for fear that I might dull its near perfect blade. I don't really want to carry it for fear that I might lose it.

Ther aren't many top quality U.S. made knives available for about $100. The Spyderco PM 2 is one of them. Top of the line materials and workmanship make this knife a must have for knife junkies like myself. The blade is made of CPM-S30V steel which is about the best for edge hardness and retention. The blade comes RAZOR sharp from the factory and will stay that way for a long time. The knife fits my hand like it was made for me. When you grasp it it the curved shape squeezes around both ends of your hand which creates a very strong tight fist around the knife. I have always been hesitant to use my other well made American folders w/the s30v or 154cm steel (Lone Wolf Harsey T and D series, LW Paul's, Benchmade Presidio 5000BK) because they were a lot of money. Instead for EDC I use the less expensive Boker or CRKT, or Kershaw knives which are all fine, but not in the same class as the Spyderco. This is a great knife for a reasonable price, It will last for years if not a lifetime, it's one sharp Mofo.

Believe the reviews and the hype about the Para Military 2 --- the size, weight, feel and blade quality of this knife have made it an EDC classic! I had considered purchasing this knife for a few years before finally taking the plunge - now, I have been EDC'ing this knife since the day it arrived, and it is one fine knife that holds a keen edge, and holds it very well. I am really beginning to appreciate the S30V steel on the PM 2. S30V it is a very high quality knife steel! I liked it so much, I bought both the plain edge and black blade versions of the knife!! I like the black blade as much as the silver one - at first I was uncertain if the black blade would show scratches more - but after light use it appears to be a very durable coating. I have read it will show signs of wear over time and use, so I don't expect the black coating to look new forever.

I own four other Spyderco's - the Paramilitary 2 Silver Blade, Police Stainless, a Delica FRN and a Lil' Matriarch - and all have a lot of use between home, work, camping, hiking, backpacking, etc. But, the next backpacking trip will have this knife at my side, I enjoy the size and action of this knife a lot. It is very light for its size at 3.8 oz, and it has a very good feeling in the hand with the G10 handle. The balance is very good and most importantly it cuts like a dream. The locking mechanism has a good "snap" to it when opening, and it has just the right amount of stiffness on the action where it opens very smoothly.

Owning the Delica with a 3" blade and the Police with the 4" blade makes me realize how perfect the 3.5" blade of the PM 2 is for my hand size. The Delica always felt a little small and I carried mainly for its light weight....

Though I knew pretty much what to expect, having carefully researched and watched many video reviews, the knife still delivered when finally in hand. The G-10 texture is great, blade centered and the action is almost as smooth as if it were on bearings, with rock solid lock up and no play in either direction. I had a slight "sweep" blemish in the DLC coating, but not bad enough to worry about. Other than that, this knife is a 10! I included a few pictures showing the Para2 in a side by side comparison with the SOG Aegis for reference. The Aegis beats out the Para2 in weight only and is the only other knife that could bump the Aegis from EDC rotation for even a minute. I have a clone Para2, but the real deal is definitely worth saving for! Merry Christmas to me!
