Ms. Pike has crafted a wonderful addition to Marina Adair's St. Helena Vineyard Kindle World. From the beginning chapter she captures your attention & emotions. I feel like the Santini's could be my neighbors. Max is adorable & seems wise beyond his years. She manages to incorporate subtle bits of humor to keep everything from becoming too intense. This was a throughly entertaining story that had a lot of substance for a short story. I hope Ms. Pike plans on writing more about the Santini family. I'm going to search out more from her.
Destiny Laughs is part of Marina Adair's St Helena Vineyard kindle world and is book one in The Santini Series. It can be read as a standalone.
*I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book*
Farrah is alone, her parents are dead and she doesn’t feel like anything is left for her in St. Helena. When she decides to put her house for sale and move, she meets Dr. Nash, a vet, in unfortunate circumstances. But they develop a friendship that seems to be moving into more and their wonderful story begins. Add a very smart 9 year old with a playful dog, and you have yourself a sweet story that will melt your heart.
Although this was a novella, the relationship developed nicely. It didn’t seem unrealistic at all. Farrah and Nash just had to happen. They were perfect for each other although Nash always made sure that his son, Max, always was his priority. He didn’t want to have a revolving door of relationships and so he never brought them around his son, but with Farrah, all bets were off and he knew he had to have her in their lives.
The secondary characters also added some spice to the story and some left me so intrigued that I can’t wait to see if they get their own book.
I'm a sap- I'm just going to put that out there right now. (Contrary to what some people might think after one of my other reviews this week!) This novella is so sweet, I was crying at the end. Destiny Laughs is a definite case of insta-lust/love, but so well done, so believable, so engaging, I was completely on board! Nash and Farrah belonged together. They deserved each other. They were meant to be.
Nash is a sweet, sexy, swoony single dad who really hasn't been looking for anything permanent with a woman- content with his flings, unwilling to get deeper involved because of his son. That is, until Farrah comes along and makes him want something more. Farrah's life has been on hold the past 7 years as she cared for her parents, but now she's ready to move on and her plans definitely don't include staying in St. Helena and falling for the hot single dad. But like the title says, sometimes destiny laughs...right in your face!
Fun, emotional, and full of heart, Destiny Laughs is a quick read that left me with a smile on my face, even as the tears were streaming down!
Nash and Farrah have plans. neither of which involve each other. But fate steps in and has them cross paths. I can't resist a single dad who is doing right by his son and to top it off is an animal lover. And Farrah is no slouch when it comes to giving of herself. She has put her life on hold to take care of her parents for the last seven years..
I loved how quickly their relationship forms. They have an instant connection and the relationship is easy and fun but moves to serious. Since Farrah is on her way to a new adventure in another town, they have to decide how far they want to go.
This is a really fast read, as all the novellas are. But I love that Ms. Pike can get all the details in in such a short time frame. You don't feel there are missed moments or not enough background. You know who these characters are and can understand how they feel about each other.
