Ms. Pike has crafted a wonderful addition to Marina Adair's St. Helena Vineyard Kindle World. From the beginning chapter she captures your attention & emotions. I feel like the Santini's could be my neighbors. Max is adorable & seems wise beyond his years. She manages to incorporate subtle bits of humor to keep everything from becoming too intense. This was a throughly entertaining story that had a lot of substance for a short story. I hope Ms. Pike plans on writing more about the Santini family. I'm going to search out more from her.
Destiny Laughs is part of Marina Adair's St Helena Vineyard kindle world and is book one in The Santini Series. It can be read as a standalone.

Farrah's life took an unexpected turn when her parents needed her to care for them. She has lived the last six years helping them. Now she is ready to start putting her life back on track and have a fresh start. She assumes this fresh start will happen outside of St. Helena's. Ready to sell her parent's home and move forward, she begins making plans. Then a twist of fate brings her right to the new veterinarian in town.
As a widower, Nash wanted to be close to family for himself and his son. So he moves back home to St. Helena to raise his son. Max has been his number one priority since his wife passed away. But when he meets Farrah, she sparks something in him he has not felt in a long time. He is no saint, but always put his son's needs first.
Sparks fly as Farrah and Nash spend time together, but with a limited timeline, can anything really come from them wanting more?
I loved how sweet this story was at times. It was a story about two people meeting at the wrong possible time, but finding what they needed in each other. It also had angst, with her set on moving away, was there a point for them to spend time together?
Considering this was a novella, Leslie Pike did a wonderful job giving us a full story that readers will love. I loved Nash. He was strong, determined and such a good guy. Farrah wanted to follow her dreams, but also knew Nash was something special. And his son stole her heart. Can they work things out, follow their dreams and be together? It is so worth reading this story to find out. A great read!
From the very first few pages, I knew that I was going to love this one. Max was so incredibly sweet and so kind to Farrah that I found myself not wanting to put my Kindle down until I knew how this one ended because I needed her to form a bond with that sweet child and his sexy dad. I loved the looks into Farrah and Nash's relationship as they built it, and that the drama that they faced wasn't over-the-top or contrived, but was actually very realistic. The “twist” that is revealed at the beach surprised me as much as it surprised Farrah and it was so great.
But THE BEST part of this adorable story is the epilogue. Oh my gosh, that epilogue. I do not want to spoil anything so this is going to be incredibly vague, but that epilogue ruined me for other “situations” like that one. It was absolutely perfect and I LOVED it – I literally would not have changed a thing about it.
If you're looking for a happy, easy read about really likable main characters – both animal and human – in sweet situations, and the kind of big, extended family that anyone would be lucky to have, you will love this novella.
