Reina Torres is such a wonderful emotional writer that it's hard to believe she doesn't have more books to her name. She gets the reader's emotions involved completely in the backstory of Stella & then has Kyle act like such a jerk you dislike him in the beginning. It doesn't take long to get you so involved in the story that you can't put it down. The style of writing & descriptive narrative has you imagining the scenes in your mind & putting yourself in the picture with them. The characters are well developed & realistic. St. Helena is a fictional community that I can lose myself in every time. Even though this book is part of this world, it can easily be read as a stand alone. The main characters are unique to this book but some of the secondary characters are familiar characters from Marina Adair's St. Helena series. This is a wonderfully sweet emotional read,
This story is about Kyle O'Malley who is returning from the service to hope his own practice as a orthopedic specialists. He is returning home to do that in St. Helena, a wonderful place to live. He grew up here. Then there is Stella who has grew up in St. Helena her whole life. She has endured a lot in her life. She has dreamed of opening a bed and breakfast business with a twist, she loves trains and she has worked at renovating train units to be rooms at the bed and breakfast. She has help from some really awesome townspeople. One of whom is Kyle's own grandfather.
Kyle wanted his practice to be calm and peaceful for his patients but the moment he opens his door there is loud noise coming from he parking lot next door. He goes to investigate and meets a young woman who he doesn't seem to recognize. Words clash and he doesn't mince words.
Stella has always had a crush on Kyle but he doesn't recognize her. But Stella has put off finding Mr. Right due to her past ex's. Kyle thinks now isn't the time for that portion of his life he needs to setup his business and go from there. What ensues is a wonderful story of second chances.
Don't pass this one up. Reina Torres is an excellent author and fairly new to the publishing world but she will go far. St. Helena Vineyard series is a wonderful selection of books. Read this and turned around and brought the book to have, loved that much.
My heart was invested through this entire story, and the proof was in the tears I had to hold a bay. Everyone is touched by cancer in some way, whether it is something we are personally facing or a loved one who has battled the disease. Reina Torres takes us on this journey of love and loss with such a raw openness and heartfelt style that we can't help but follow through to the end, hoping and wishing for it to be a happy one. She weaves this love story through the lives of St. Helena characters we've previously met and introduces us to a few new ones, all the while drawing us to the people and home that make this the wonderful place we all imagine living.
Stella is starting a Bed and Breakfast but there is trouble at the location so she moves some of the work temporarily to a lot next to Kyle's practice. This is where the fun begins. Kyle doesn't like the noise she brings with her. They knew each other from their childhood and he can't believe she is the same girl. Stella has a secret and is worried about it. Loved this book.
