I received an advance reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
If you like romances between mature couples, you'll love this book. Ms. Torres has written a couple that are seasoned, mature & know that a relationship is work. The obstacles the writer has them navigating are what any couple would have to deal with. I loved the appearance of so many characters from the original series. I really enjoyed this one. A great story for any price!
Vance Donovan has just existed in the big city, writing, but now needs a change. After meeting Jordan the year before he kept in touch.
Vance travels to St Helena CA to write his new book but also to see if there is a chance for him and Jordan.
We first met Jordan in Kissing Under The Mistletoe as Gabe's right hand woman, and she showed up in many of the other books in the series. Although she was a great side character, she never got her happily ever after despite some teasing that she just might. Ms. Torres remedied that in a serious way with this novella. One of Reina Torres' many talents is writing strong, sexy men who don't feel the need to go all “alpha” (a term that often is used when the male character is a jerk but the author wants readers to like him) in order to be crush-worthy. Author Vance Donovan is a a perfect example of that – he is just seriously good guy who is sexy, solid and stable, and he was exactly the kind of man that the long-suffering Jordan deserved.
I loved so many things about this novella. I appreciated that Vance and Jordan had a relationship before he arrived in St. Helena. There's nothing wrong with love at first sight, but for two people with their history, having an established friendship just worked. I also loved Ava. Oh, Ava. She blew into the story in perfect Ava mode (if you've read the St. Helena books you know what I mean) and stirred the pot in a perfectly Ava way. Vance handled her appearance perfectly and his solution for a drama that happens just confirmed that he was the perfect man for Jordan, but for Ava also.
I highly recommend this novella – and ALL of Ms. Torres' novellas - to anyone who enjoyed the original books. There is nothing about this story that isn't absolutely wonderful.
I'm always glad when all of these authors get together to build upon the Kindle Worlds series', because it give us so much more insight into those characters we've gotten to love (and hate), and they take us on a ride we don't quite expect but are always happy we boarded. Ms Torres writes an exceptional tale that takes us through all of the emotions of a friends to lovers relationship, and I found Jordan and Vance to be two of my favorites. I laughed and I got choked up. It was sweet and sexy and exactly what I've come to expect from this author. I loved it and found it to be a wonderful addition to the series.
