At the peak of his career and too old to be drafted into World War II, Glenn Miller none-the-less volunteered for the Army Air Corps in 1942 in order to create a modernized Army band. "St. Louis Blues March" combined blues and jazz with a traditional military march. "St. Louis Blues" written by W.C. Handy had already been a commercial success. It was the first blues song to succeed as a pop record. Major Miller's plane went missing on Dec. 15, 1944. His plane took off from England to play for troops that had just liberated Paris. The plane was never found. Fortunately, his work lives on! You will really enjoy this recording.
