What is Stabilant 22? Stabilant 22 is an electrically active material which stays resident within a contact-pair, there enhancing conductivity without causing electrical leakage between adjacent contacts. Although Stabilant 22 does have a detergent action it is not sold as a cleaner, just as it has a good lubricant action but is not sold as a lubricant. Stabilant 22 is used to increase the reliability of contacts. Tenfold to one hundred-fold increases are not unusual. At the present time it is used in many different types of contacts, including card-edge connectors, D-type connectors, MIL-spec connectors, signal switches, etc.Stabilant 22 is an initially non-conductive amorphous-semiconductive polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropyline block polymer with a molecular weight of about 2800 that, when used in thin films between contacts, acts under the influence of the electrical field and switches to a conductive state. The electric field gradient at which this occurs is established during manufacture so that the material will remain normally non-conductive. Its switching speed is too slow to allow it to be used in the more traditional semiconductor applications; however, this means that signals at frequencies substantially above five cycles per hour will not be modulated by the switching characteristics of Stabilant 22.Thus, when applied to electromechanical contacts, Stabilant 22 provides the wide-bandpass connection reliability of a soldered joint without bonding the contacting surfaces together! In its undiluted form at room temperature, Stabilant 22 has the viscosity of medium-weight motor oil, although it thins out with increasing temperature, starting to decompose into the two polymers it is formed from at about 240° Celsius. It has a very low vapor pressure and therefore there is no appreciable loss of material from evaporation.     As Responsible Engineer for a data collection product supplied to the military, I was tasked to find a better product than microcrystalline wax in oil to combat fret corrosion caused by dissimilar metals of IC pins in socketed PCBs and micromotion caused by heating and cooling of the board. My final solution was to provide Stabilant 22E (ethanol solvent) and apply it to all PCB connectors and IC pins where the parts were socketed; this includes some very large pin grid array (PGA) integrated modules. Absolute success! We had no more problems with intermittent signals, all parts stayed clean of fret corrosion and large PWAs with 630 gold pin connectors now took very little effort to insert and remove from the backplanes. One final note, the Stabilant didn't dissipate or migrate and remained on the surface for over ten years until the product was decommissioned. On the ten critical systems installed we never went down or suffered any signal issues. A perfect result and a 100% award fee across the program! Definitely worth the price!

    Yea, I know, this stuff is super expensive. I have a couple of classic 60s vehicles and this really helped on the connection issues. Especially my Datsun; which are famous for their lousy grounds but this stuff really helped and you use a teeny tiny amount, it goes a very long way. If you have any vehicles that you treasure and just want to run great even though you only drive them occasionally and you can afford it, I would try it.

    I've used this product in the past in an industrial environment to make an old HURCO CNC milling machine more reliable. It was a prototype model and over the years had become extremely maintenance intensive to keep operational. Generally, a random digital logic fault would result in a machined part being damaged when the mill jumped position. Trying STAB 22 was a last resort, and amazingly after lightly coating all connectors with a 4/1 alcohol solution of it, the Hurco trouble calls were reduced more than ten-fold!

    My present use involves a Communications antenna on an experimental light aircraft (RV-9A). Radio calls were often noisy and nearly unreadable, and controllers often commented on the poor signal. I removed and cleaned the antenna base with a ScotchBrite pad and alcohol,then coated the antenna baseplate (4"x8") with STAB 22, and rebolted the assy back in. To date radio comm has been excellent! Cleaning helped but continued low resistance connections to the aircraft ground plane are assured with STAB 22 - the wonder liquid!

    You have to mix it up and the instructions that come with it are NOT accurate they are an approximation and the instructions say so.
    I am assuming that because you are mixing it with the alcohol it dissipates and leaves only the Stabilant. You would think because
    of the price and the high dollar customers they have especially NASA, do you think they give a bunch of Gov. Geeks such vague
    measurements? When I was in the service USMC we had to know things like that exactly. Other than that I can only tell you I haven't
    measured any increase in speed and it will be a while maybe years before me knowing about the better contact adherence over other
    products I use it on computer parts on the Motherboard and try the usb ports, ect. I want to try a few things and wanted something that
    doesn't stay wet.
