A facsimile reprinting of the 1974 Second Edition. It is great that Princeton University Press has made again available this classic work in mathematical biology. There is a wealth of mathematical ideas and methods, carefully written. Several Appendices provide additional mathematical background. All in all, this books continues to be a source of information and inspiration to this day.

Anybody who is modeling ecosystems should read this book.

I don't think you can consider yourself a well-educated ecosystem modeler without having read this book.

As the title of this review says, this book was one of my favorites from my grad student days. At the time, I was trying to model this system: EcoSphere Closed Aquatic Ecosystem, Small Sphere

I never published that work, but the effort led to my 1989 paper in Nature on evolutionary pressure on planktonic DMS production.
