I found this to be very reminiscent of one of my favorite classic movies of all time. Like Sabrina, starring Humphrey Bogart and Aubrey Hepburn, Henrietta was in love with the master's youngest son her entire life. Unlike Sabrina, Henrietta's love affair is by far not one sided. Ernest has loved Henrietta just as long as she's loved him. However, due to their vastly different stations in life, their parents object to their closeness and intervene.
This spin-off story of The Iron Corsair surpasses my expectations in every way.
Ernest Howes is the second born which doesn't hold much weight in society. He was tormented by his father all through his childhood and covered & protected brother his entire life. Accused of murder his brother flees Garring Manor while Ernest deals with the consequences. his brother returned 5 years later after piracy to stay alive and hide from authorities he was pardoned and given his life back.
Ernest longs for his Henrietta who was taken from him at a young age of 12. He always thought of her as one day would be his wife. after she was sent away he wrote to her for sometime and never got a response back from her so he was forced to try to forget her. But as the years pass by he could never. No one could own his heart as she does..
One day while riding with his brother he chose to keep going to get lost in his thoughts when a beautiful woman literally fell to his lap. She seemed to know everything about him and his family. She would not give him her name but she seemed familiar to him. She accompanied him back to the manor when his brother walked and said Welcome back Henrietta. The only thing he could say was Hen. He could not believe that she had returned. Henrietta was shocked he did not recognize her. This was the man she loved and missed so when she was sent to live with Aunt and Uncle in Kent. She recently returned because her aunt has past.
Once alone the story unfolds as they talk about the scandal to keep them apart on behaf of their fathers. Ernest swears even though they come from different social status that he will never let her go. She will become his wife. She is not a "lady"! Ernest and his brother strum up a story. Will society welcome her or will it tear apart a great love? Ernest will fight to have her by his side forever..
This is a story of unveiling love that shows what two people will do to be together. It is definitely a must read.
Barbara Devlin's Regency Rendezvous romance tells the charming story of Henrietta Katherine Graham, the daughter of the stablemaster for the Marquess of Ravenwood and Lord Ernest Cornelius Frederick Howe! When Ernest retires to the family estate, he meets again his childhood sweetheart Henrietta. Love is still in the air for those two beautiful souls. Henrietta is a sweet and kind person but she lacks confidence in herself. Will Ernest help her to acquire it? Is marriage possible between two persons from very different backgrounds? At first, their new relationship will be complicated, but with time, they will discover that love has no borders! I love the happy ending!
I'm now ready to read The Marooner, Ms. Devlin's third adventure of the Pirates of the Coast series. I love her style of writing and all the emotions and passion she blends in her novels. A must read for sure!
