"Exciting, riveting, unforgettable characters. A touch noir, a bit gothic, full of captivating suspense. STACCATO is a well-crafted psychological thriller that will keep you turning pages." - Sam Barone, award-winning author
"Staccato is a musical tempo, a beat, a rhythm. Ledford's Staccato throbs with the tensions of two prodigies vying for their diabolic mentor's approval. A gripping look at the resentments and ambitions at the highest level of musical competition where envy, jealouosy and cold ambition lead to murder. And murder. And murder." -Virginia Nosky, award-winning author of Blue Turquoise White Shell --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The only item to note that Ms. Ledford might want to bring to her publisher's attention is a number of formatting issues in the Kindle version for the iPhone. Mostly they were hyphenated words that appeared now mid paragraph with the hyphen still there. Worth going through to fix these things since the story was stupendous and worthy of an error-free presentation.
Kudos to Ms. Ledford for a superb first novel worthy of high recommendation from a fellow mystery writer. Going to read SNARE next!
But what young Nicholas also has is a cruel and orchestrating mentor who controls every aspect of his life--even his relationships, and who will live and who will die. Ledford paints a mesmerizing and complex portrait of this man, Alexander Kalman, the maestro Nicholas calls "Uncle." Through the author's ability to script a scene and draw a character with a well-chosen economy of words, Staccato moves with the fast beating pace of an anxious thriller. Audiences will not be disappointed.
Ultimately I think this is what the issue was - it didn't feel genuine or real, and I didn't care enough about the characters in either a positive or negative way to want to know what happened to them next. Most musical references felt like they were dropped in an attempt to be a book set in the music world rather than occurring naturally. I finished the book more out of obligation than pleasure, and it was predictable until the end.
