The wall box is exactly as described. It's not fancy; it's a heavy gauge sheet metal box with a decent quality brass lock. It lacks the features you'd find on much more expensive wall boxes, some of which might seriously effect the security of the box, but the lock is good quality, the hinges are enclosed and protected, and the box is generally of decent build quality. The lock is a key lock, which is mildly annoying, but that's clear from the product description, and some folks prefer them, right? Installation took less than five minutes with a drill and a drywall saw, and looks professionally installed. The box fits between two studs perfectly, so you can't even install it off-level. Advice: when I installed the second box, I found that the studs were slightly closer together than they're supposed to be. Be sure to have a hammer and a set of wood chisels, or a planer, or whatever your tool of choice to shave 1/8" or 1/4" off of a 2x4.
Be sure to look at the other side of the wall before you cut ... a switch box, or even a run of romex will take up enough space that the box won't fit.
You could probably also install this as a floor safe, as well.
This box is not fire resistant. If someone with a pry bar wants in, and is willing to invest a little time, they're gonna get in. The truth is, though, that if you have something in your home that someone wants, they're going to get it if they're willing to take the time.Read more ›
What I don't like: As others have stated, the lag-screws supplied with this thing are terrible. They are soft metal Phillips-head with a poorly cut pocket that strips out all too easily even when a proper pilot hole has been drilled and the proper size tool-bit is used. $2 worth of quality hex-head lag-bolts will make your life much easier. Also, the shelves flex excessively unless anchored at the ends. To anchor them at the ends requires installing them at the same height as the mounting lag-bolts, or requires you to drill new holes for the shelf ends. I did the latter, which was an acceptable result, but extra work on my part. As stated by others, the packaging was lacking, but my unit suffered only some chipped paint rather than the bent parts others have reported.
Overall I think the unit is a very good value. The shortcomings I mention are minor annoyances, not deal-breakers. I have no buyers remorse and would happily buy again if I had it to do over.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the door features a rotating internal locking bar plus upper and lower bars so that you get 3 locking points. The box is spot welded together, and the piano hinge is secured to the box with spot welding and 3 pop rivets. However the hinge is secured to the door only by spot welding. I added additional pop rivets to the hinge on the box side and also on the door side (staggering them vertically so that they would not interfere with each other when the door is closed). Also I tightened up the internal nut that holds the lock on the door. The two included shelves are full width but not full depth so as to clear the locking mechanism when the door is closed. The shelves can each be mounted at 3 different heights via included sheet metal screws. Some foam is included to line the shelves and the bottom of the box. Per other reviewers, don't use the included Phillips head screws, instead get some hex head screws.Read more ›

It's fine. The shelves are a different story. It's actually build decently but the shelves are as flimsy as can be.Published 23 days ago by jomanuelpr
It isn't the most highly secure safe in the world. However, when coupled with a good hiding spot it will work well to lock down important documents. Read morePublished 26 days ago by Richard

Good "in wall" cabinet. Works great as an ammo locker. Installation was quick and easy with a spirit level and dry wall saw. Read more
