Great security for pistols, ammo and valuables at home, on the road or in the office. Solid steel, pry resistant, plate steel doors, steel live action locking bolts and concealed hinges provide greater security. The electronic lock includes a dashboard faceplate that makes it easy to view the status of your safe. The key pad will "beep" when a button is touched- letting you know you have pressed a key. The "beeps" can be turned off or on with the press of the megaphone button. There is a time out period after 3 incorrect combination attempts. Your safe includes a backup key should your batteries lose power or if you forget your combination. Combinations can be changed easily by pressing a button located on the back of the door and entering a new combination. There are pre-drilled holes for mounting the safe to the floor/shelf and wall. Fastening hardware is included. Safes should be mounted to a solid surface to ensure the security of their contents. These safes are California-approved Firearm Safety Devices that meet the requirements of Penal Code section 23655 and the regulations issued thereunder.

The PDS-1500 (which I purchased at a sporting goods store since I was totally confused by Amazon's website) has multiple design improvements including a mute button on the keyboard, a cover for the programming code reset button so it can't be pressed with a rod via one of the mounting holes, and likely also corrects the problem with the back-up key lock being easily picked. I read the manuals for the PDS-500 and the the PDS-1500 and saw the difference in the two models, but had no idea which one Amazon would ship if I ordered it from them.
I've included photos of the exterior and interior of my PDS-1500 safe. Much different than the PDS-500. The external appearance is totally different and the internal PDS-500 red push button switch for reprogramming the safe has been replaced by a reset button UNDER THE SMALL BLACK COVER just to the left of the battery compartment.
The sporting goods store was selling off the silver keyboard versions of the next larger Stack-On safe (PS-514) at a heavily discounted price while the black keyboard version of the same safe was about $30 more. There appears to have been a major redesign for at least two of their safe models.
The safe I purchased, the actual PDS-1500, is excellent and very worthy of a five star rating. Not sure about the PDS-500.
I checked with a paperclip and it opened right away. The hardest part was getting the plastic facade away from the key hole as you can see with my video.
After contacting stack-on about the issue I received a replacement lock to fix the problem. Lock took 10 minutes to replace and isn't as vulnerable to issues.
The PDS-1500 WOW! I almost gave up looking for safes, because of all the horrible reviews. Then this popped up. I LOVE it! You can chose a 3-6 digit code or use the key. It beeps loud, so you will know if someone is messing with it. You even have the option to turn off the sound. It's a great size. I still have a ton of room. It's heavy (but not to heavy to lift) just a good heavy and quality weight. It's easy to lift the cover up, because of the handle attached. I am so so so happy I purchased this safe. Even more happy that I read the review pointing out that the safe everyone was reviewing was a different model number. It has a nice lined inside. And the door is lowered and not flesh to the box, which would make it harder to break into.
I give this drawer safe a 5 star review
