Blog postWell folks, 2020 has been laid to rest. It’s easy to wallow in what a terrible year it was with the pandemic, the vitriolic election campaigns, the slowing down of the economy, the hurricanes, the wildfires, police violence/killings, the sad and shocking deaths of Chadwick Boseman, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Eddie Van Halen, and Kobe Bryant and international terrorism. So let’s not do that.
Let’s remember some good things came out of 2020. Here are mine:

Blog postLondon Snow By Robert Bridges
When men were all asleep the snow came flying,
In large white flakes falling on the city brown,
Stealthily and perpetually settling and loosely lying,
Hushing the latest traffic of the drowsy town;
Deadening, muffling, stifling its murmurs failing;
Lazily and incessantly floating down and down:
Silently sifting and veiling road, roof and railing;

Blog postThere seems to be a subscription service for everything these days, from beauty products to wine and cheese. But, what about writers? Don’t let our aloof, hipster attitudes fool you. We like getting stuff in the mail like everyone else — with the exception of bills and IRS notices, of course.
Here is my Christmas list… um, I mean, a list of cool subscription boxes for wordsmiths:

Blog postWhen the Frost is on the Punkin By James Whitcomb Riley
When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder’s in the shock,
And you hear the kyouck and gobble of the struttin’ turkey-cock,
And the clackin’ of the guineys, and the cluckin’ of the hens,
And the rooster’s hallylooyer as he tiptoes on the fence;
O, it’s then’s the times a feller is a-feelin’ at his best,
With the risin’ sun to greet him from a night of peaceful rest,

Blog postSong of the Witches: “Double, double toil and trouble” By William Shakespeare
(from Macbeth)
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder’s fork and blind-worm’s sting,
Lizard’s leg and howlet’s wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil an3 months ago Read more -
Blog postThere are so many tales about writers and their wacky habits. There’s the story about mystery writer Agatha Christie eating apples while in the bathtub and examining murder photos. Then, there is Dan Brown (The Da Vinci Code) who cures writer’s block by hanging upside down. We’re not all grumpy, disheveled, cat loving hermits. I am, but most writers aren’t.
Here are three stereotypes about writers that I wish would fade away.

Blog postHowdy, everyone. I can’t believe 2021 is only a few months away. I know I write this almost every year, but where on Earth did the time go? One minute I’m nursing a hangover from a drunken New Year’s Eve party, next I’m ducking and dodging a novel corona virus like I’m a soldier in a war zone, and the next thing I know it’s almost Halloween.
Maybe it’s a good thing that 2020 is almost over. It certainly has been unlike any other year in existence.

Blog postThe words I hate hearing now more than ever are, “unprecedented times,” “woke,” “existential threat,” and “gnome hamburger meat.” The world has changed since my last major blog post with the COVID-19 pandemic, protests over social injustice, and the declining economy. Over the last few months the phrase “social distancing” no longer means running away from the creepy guy at work.

Blog postThe Emmy nominations are out. I don’t watch most of the nominated programs, but I have nothing else to blog about this month so why not give my uninformed opinion anyway? Not knowing something doesn’t stop anyone else online from speaking out.
So here are my 2020 Emmy picks!

Blog postHe Thinks of His Children By Hittan of Tayyi
Translated by Sir Charles Lyall
Fortune has brought me down—her wonted way—
from station great and high to low estate;
Fortune has rent away my plenteous store:
of all my wealth honor alone is left.
Fortune has turned my joy to tears: how oft
did fortune make me laugh with what she gave!
But for these girls, the kata’s downy brood,
unkindly thrust from door to door as hard—7 months ago Read more

Will she survive?
Two years have passed since Yarah helped Blaire escape the evil magic controlling her, but it came at a price. Yarah lost her family, and Blaire is living under a curse that has left her blind, deaf, and mute.
Yarah sold everything she owned and devoted her life to being Blaire's fulltime caregiver, but there is no rest for the broken. The new Primordial leader has Yarah dragged to her office because she needs information that only Blaire can provide. Getting this knowledge requires using a powerful spell which will render Blaire brain dead--if she lives.
Yarah races to find an antidote to Blaire's curse while avoiding the clutches of the new leader, but nothing is as it seems.
The evil magic Yarah thought she'd erased was merely waiting to destroy her and the people she loves.
Only one question remains: will she survive long enough to save them and the world?
