1941 CLASSIC MOSCOW MULE DRINK, THE UNTOLD STORY...

We all Love the sparkling taste of the 1941 Classic Moscow Mule drink but do you know the real story behind the making of Classic Moscow Mule drink.

It travels back to the summers of 1941, when the first carload of Jack Morgan's CocknBull ginger beer was railing over the plains to give New Yorkers' a happy surprise.
3 friends were in the Chatham bar, John A. Morgan, president of CocknBull Products; John G. Martin, president of G.F. Heublein Brothers Inc. of Hartford, Conn, and the third was Rudolph Kunett, president of the Pierre Smirnoff, Heublein's vodka division.
Martin & Kunett had their minds on their vodka & wondered what would happen if a 2 ounce shot joined with Morgan's ginger beer & the squeeze of a lemon.
Ice was ordered, lemons procured, mugs ushered in & the concoction put together. Cups were raised, the men counted five and down went the first taste. It was good. It lifted the spirit to adventure. Four or five days later the mixture was christened the Moscow mule.

Great for serving- chilled beer, Vodka, Gin, Rum, Tequila, Russian julep, whiskey, mixed drinks, Cocktails and Mocktails.

The contrast between the black exterior coating and the bare copper interior is striking and makes these cups really stand out.

The handle is firmly attached - other copper mugs I've owned of similar design have all suffered from a loose handle that eventually fails, but I am confident that will not be the case with these mugs.

The mug walls are thick enough to resist dents and distortions and the outer coating has thus far resisted any scratches from handling and use. While I typically hand wash these types of mugs, some friends loaded them into my dishwasher while my attention was elsewhere - I was pleased to see that the outer finish survived the wash cycle completely intact.

5 stars - I will be buying more of these mugs to fully equip my home bar. Highly recommended.

I got these because they look unique, and are a good alternative to the standard copper-looking copper mugs. I read reviews and was aware that there were some complaints about the finish. After receiving them, and using them a few times, I can concur. The finish is matte, and while it goes without saying, definitely not made for the dishwasher. I have taken care in being gentle when washing these, yet one of them has a small chip to the finish already (I got these a little over 30 days ago). It's not such a big chip that it is bothersome, but I foresee more finish peeling/chipping in the future. These also "sweat" a ton, as in there is a large amount of condensation build when these are used with ice - which I am not a huge fan of. I plan to use these until they become an eye-sore, but wouldn't repurchase.
