|---|---|---|---|
High-Performance SteelA budget friendly, reliable, top-of-the-line Chinese produced steel, 8Cr13MoV steel has carbon and slightly less nickel for hardness and edge retention. Kershaw’s precision heat treated 8Cr13MoV steel strongly takes and holds an edge and offers wear resistance that can withstand damage from both abrasive and adhesive wear. 8Cr13MoV is a value blade steel featuring high performing characteristics. |
Attractive Blade CoatingBlack oxide coating is a chemical bath, or conversion coating, that converts the surface of the blade steel to magnetite. Mainly for appearance, black oxide does add some mild corrosion resistance and tends to minimize light reflection from the blade. The blackening process gives the blade an attractive, smooth, tactical, fierce black surface that is very desirable to knife owners. |
Fast DeploymentUsing a torsion bar to move the blade out of the handle, Kershaw’s revolutionary SpeedSafe Assisted Opening system enables smooth, secure, fast one-handed blade deployment. Apply manual pressure to the flipper or thumb stud with a light push or pull back to overcome resistance of the torsion bar, and the blade opens smoothly and locks into place for confident handling without premature closure. |
Secure Locking SystemKershaw’s frame lock design makes knives safer, securer, sturdier and quicker for one-handed blade deployment. The knife handle, or frame, has two metal plates on either side of the blade, and when open, the lockbar butts up against the blade’s backend to prevent blade closure. To close the knife blade, push the frame to the side to unlock the blade and fold the blade back into the handle. |

One-Handed FlipperKnives with SpeedSafe open have two options for one-handed blade deployment. To activate the smooth, instant open, user can push a thumbstud or press a flipper. The flipper on SpeedSafe assisted knives is easy to operate by both left- and right-handed users. And, once blade swings open and locks into place, flipper either disappears for aesthetics or remains visible for added finger protection. |
Durable HandleVery tough, able to take heavy-duty hard use, and versatile, glass-filled nylon handle material is a nylon synthetic polymer reinforced with glass threads for increased strength. Glass-filled nylon has incredible stiffness for a secure and stable grip, great ability to withstand heat, and dimensional stability combined with excellent wear resistance. Unique to certain Kershaw products, an exclusive and iconic texture is used on the handle to identify the brand and to provide additional traction when using the knife. The pattern is in a 'K' shaped repeating pattern to provide an extremely secure and safer grip. The K-Texture pattern ensures the user will always have a secure hold, even in slippery, wet, marine conditions. |
Convenient PocketclipStainless steel contains chromium to equip knife handles to withstand rusting and provide corrosion resistance. Stainless steel offers durability and is often used in combination with another material to make for an easier grip. Offering excellent durability, stainless steel knife handles often incorporate etching, patterns, ridges or lines for a less slippery grip. |

I really like this knife, I've had a host of other brands such as Buck, SOG, CRKT, Gerber, and a few other random cheap knives but this has become one of my favorites because;
A.) Simplicity of design
Two metal plates, a spring mechanism, and a blade.
Some other brands add complicated mechanisms as a safety (SOG) or as a lockable feature to keep the blade in place after opening (CRKT) which I find hard to use if your hands are dirty or if you aren't that dextrous. I always have to show people how to open or close them, but I digress, this one wins at simplicity.
B.) Fitment/Quality of machining
This blade fits up against the liner lock so snugly that there's no wiggle in any direction once it's open. I can feel build quality issues on every Gerber, SOG, & CRKT that I've owned and just thought it's a problem that less expensive folding knives have but Kershaw nailed this one on the final product.
C.)Edge
Holds a very nice edge and it's easy to touch up when it needs to be sharpened again, came to me already as sharp as could be. No complaints there.
D.)Feel
This knife is not so heavy that it's prohibitive to carry but not so light that it feels cheap. It feels like a more expensive knife to my hands and I really like that. It has a hefty feeling to it and it sounds good when it clicks open. Some other brands like SOG your CRKT don't deliver that feel because of plastic handle scales on a metal liner, whereas this has solid metal *everything* (possibly a teflon washer in the action, but everything else is for sure solid haha).
Those are the reasons I love this knife, the only reason I'm short one star is because I value a product being exactly what it says it is and the only thing Kershaw missed here is that mine is missing threaded holes so the pocket clip is not reversible as it says and shows in pictures. Not a huge deal for me but there have been a few times I would have liked to switch sides and reversibility would be nice.

The blade is super sharp. Sharp enough to cut the hairs off your skin. Believe me I do this with all my knives to test out how sharp it is.
The quick open is sturdy enough to were the knife doesn't wiggle and open smooth. My first knife would loosen and the screws would need to get retightened. The second is too tight to were it doesn't fully open by itself. This one is perfect.
