I bought the SwiftPull Pro 2 a couple weeks ago, and for once I bought something on Amazon not based on careful consideration of the reviews. (There was only 1 review on it at the time of this writing, which was positive.) I bought it because it was all metal. I love how the Houdini operates; that is, it is easy to remove corks and the design is quite nice. However, I've had two Houdini's in the past couple years, and the handle has broken on each of them. The last one I bought was only 6 months ago, and when its handle broke a couple weeks ago, I started looking for a new wine opener.
The SwiftPull is actually all metal in construction, which makes me think it will last longer than the Houdini's. Maybe it will break some time soon and I'll revise this review, but at the moment I believe it is better made than the Houdini. If you've ever used a Houdini, the operation is exactly the same. It pulls corks just as easily and you remove the cork from the opener in the same way as the Houdini. It contains an extra spiral when the other one becomes dull and a foil cutter. The foil cutter is larger than some of the others I own, and does a very nice job removing the foil.
I will list one minor issue to be aware of with the SwiftPull. While the corkpull itself and the cutter are really good, the stand that holds them is cheap plastic. I don't think this should be an issue, but it is a little strange that the actual cork puller is so well made but is paired with a stand that isn't very good at all. On the plus side, it takes up less room than the plastic box that comes with the Houdini.
I've owned this SwiftPull for quite a while, now. Believe me when I say I'll update this review if the SwiftPull also dies an early death, but it has been smooth and flawless so far! It feels solid and looks like it's very well made. It quickly pulls out both natural & synthetic corks and releases the corks just as fast. The included wine bottle foil cutter also works like a charm. It includes an extra non-stick coated spiral and stand.
So far, I recommend the SwiftPull enthusiastically. Now, let's get tipsy! (With a designated driver standing by, of course)
It has been just shy of 2 years since we started using the SwiftPull. We aren't regular wine drinkers. However, with the same amount of usage that has broken previous brands we've owned, the SwiftPull is still going strong! It is solid, well made and very effective. Plus, it's great at removing even synthetic corks with ease. This is not a cheap plastic or pot metal piece of junk like so many others. We'll be getting one more as a wedding shower gift because we feel confident in its quality and operation.
