After reading the Amazon reviews for the GoWISE USA (the worst was 3/5 and had more to do with the manual than with the pressure cooker) I took a chance a bought one. We used it last night for the first time and it was dream to use. It's very easy to get the lid on with one small counter-clockwise move, it displays the actual pressure, lets you know when heating and pressurizing with an LED readout, and lets you know when cooking begins. It's easy to set the cooking timer, either with preset timers or an individual time setting. And of course didn't blow up. :-)
I can very highly recommend this product.
The only time I had any guesswork was with the artichokes, as the veggie steam options are only 1, 3 and 5 minutes. My internet research indicated that artichokes should steam 9 minutes in a pressure cooker, so I chose the 5 minutes and when that ended, hit the stop button and set the cooker to steam for another 5 minutes. Success!
I consider the GoWise a very good value, as the cook pot is made from stainless steel. In comparison shopping other pressure cookers at a similar price point, most of them use non-stick coating (yucky, scratchable chemical compounds, no thanks!).
For those of you new to pressure cookers, like me, there is one thing to take into account. Although the cooking time is less, you do have to allow time for the pressure to build up before it starts the cooking process. Also, it takes some time for the pressure to drop down before opening the pot. So the 40 minute soup I made last night actually took more like 1.25 hours.
You may want to be aware when shopping for a cooker, that this one's instructions say to not fill the pot over 60% of capacity. For dry, expandable foods, the rule is 50%. So while an 8 quart cooker sounds big, in reality you are making more like 5 quarts… Which is enough food for a good size family, or a lot of leftovers!
Replacement parts are available for the sealing ring. Amazon only lists a 6 quart sealing ring, but when you use that link you can choose a ring for the 8 quart unit instead. So it looks like I will be cooking with the GoWize for years to come.
