Editorial Reviews

Review

"This humorous and outrageous storyline [reaches] a level of fantasy and silliness that is completely appropriate. Doyle writes clearly and engagingly with just about the right amount of attitude and suspense for the target age readers. For kids who love to read or boys who may be reluctant readers, this is a very good choice." -TimeToPlayMag.com --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

I bought this for my grandson's sixth birthday. He loves it. There is enough excitement to keep his interest, and he understands the jokes. The illustrations provide a good support of the story line. It is wonderful to hear him say "One more chapter". I would suggest reading "The Attack of the Sharkheaded Zombie" first since it introduces all the main characters.

You know those books that your child wants to read over and over, and that she wants to talk about all of the time? This is one of those books. In our household, it's now "slug this" and slug that" just about all day. Not that I am complaining, mind you! If she is going to be obsessed with a book, better this one -- with its fun plot and relatable characters and playful illustrations -- that some other dreck she could have chosen. In short, this book is a treat, and I highly recommend it.

I've just purchased a second copy to give as a birthday gift! My third grader was having a "middle-of-the-summer-I'm-bored" day and I gave her "Supermarket Slugs" to read on the screen porch with a glass of lemonade. I peeked out an hour later and she was engrossed! She loved the book and the illustrations! Thank you! Can't wait till the next one comes out!

My daughter loved this book, and just like the author's other title Attack of the Shark-Headed Zombie (A Stepping Stone Book(TM)), she wouldn't put it down until she had completely finished it. This is a fun and exciting series for your child to enjoy reading in the summer and will keep their skills up to par for when they return to school in the fall. Highly recommended!

A must "get" for the elementary school set. We found Supermarket Slugs to be the perfect next step in our 1st graders reading progression -- longer sentences, some bigger words, witty writing and great illustrations all kept our son buried in Supermarket Slugs. While certainly not a kid anymore, Mr. Doyle must be a kid at heart given he knows how to please his audience. We have already ordered the other Stepping Stone Books by the author -- hopefully he keeps cranking out new titles.

My seven-year old picked this book out at the library - pretty much just for the name, I think (what seven-year old boy doesn't like slugs?). I'm happy to report that he loved the book and was excited to add it to his list this summer. The story kept his interest, all the way through to the end, without much nagging from me. He didn't give me a lot of specifics, but he clearly enjoyed it.

What a fun read! We having been working with our second grader on reading this summer and came across Bill Doyle's "Stampede of the Supermarket Slugs." He ate it up. For a kid (and his parents) who thought reading was a chore, this was a treat. We sent a second copy to his cousin.
