5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Adventure Story
By JC Davenport on August 6, 2020
Wow what a great down to earth rollicking adventure story this is. I've been meaning to read it for a while. But I think I put it off because on the surface I stereotyped it as a "cause" book - and causes can be all full of big words and preaching and boredom for me.

Turns out this is not a boring book at all. And its written in every day language and is not preachy. It's an adventure story, with colorful characters, personal drama and much suspense. Jay Erskine Leutze has written a book that both the academics and "mountain people" can understand and appreciate. Being kin to both of those, I'm proud of him and his Dogtown neighbors and those environmental "nuts" who "come a runnin" to help (after Jay started hollering).

I agree that its too bad that even basic environmental/conservation common sense gets politicized in our polarized American society. This book tries and succeeds in being above politics. It's a well told story about fighting for what is right and helping your neighbor next door and also the one on the trail, even if he's a stranger.
