The Standard Gage 07734001 vernier scribing height gauge has a measurement range of 0” - 12”/0 - 300 mm, and is graduated to 0.001”/0.02 mm. Graduations on the right scale are in standard inch units, while graduations on the left scale are in metric units.
The scriber, used to mark a position on a workpiece, is 13 mm x 70 mm (H x W), and is carbide-tipped for hardness and to help prolong life. The slider and beam are made of stainless steel. The scales and vernier backgrounds have a glare-free satin chrome finish that helps resist rust. The unit comes with a protective case and inspection report.
A vernier scale provides precise measurement through a second sliding scale that indicates where measurement lies between marks on the main scale. A calibrated screw mechanism supports fine, uniform slider adjustments.
Height gauges, also called gages, are precision measuring instruments that travel on a vertical column (also called the beam) to measure and/or mark the vertical distance from the base of an object in fine units. The vertical position of the gauge and its attached pointer are changed by turning a calibrated screw, or one or more feed wheels. Recorded rotations are read from a scale, a dial, counters, and/or an electronic display. A screw clamp holds the pointer to the gauge. The pointer is typically sharpened to act as a scriber, and can be used to mark a position on a workpiece by scratching its surface. On compatible units, the scriber may be replaced by an electronic touch-signal probe. Height gauges are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering.
Standard Gage manufactures precision measuring equipment and metrology hand tools, and is a product line by Hexagon Metrology. Standard Gage is headquartered in North Kingstown, RI.
