Standing on the Promises: A Handbook of Biblical Childrearing (Family) Paperback – May 20, 1997

Additional Details
Douglas Wilson argues in this book that God promised blessings to His people, "their children, and their children's children forever." The norm for faithful members of the covenant is that their children will follow them in faithfulness. The oddity should be children who fall away. Unless we reestablish faithful Christian culture in countless homes, we will never reestablish it anywhere else.
This book is part of the Canon Press series of books on the family, which has helped many people trying to deal with the on the ground messes that come with sinners living under the same roof. This book on childrearing covers the basic duties parents have to their children, as well as much biblical advice on the particularities that come with it.

I just finished reading this in 2020 amidst the chaos and confusion of a world turned upside down. In God’s providence, He has given us the opportunity to take seriously our callings to raise our children in the fear and admonition of the Lord and to do it in the context of prioritizing God’s order of parents teaching the children that God has given them. I have 3 children under the age of 7 and it has truly been an adjustment but this book has helped me refocus on God’s promises and his call on my life as a husband and father to take ownership over the education of my children. My wife has also been reading the book as well and we have grown together more and more as we began homeschooling and I began working from home due to the coronavirus.
Enough of my rambling, I highly recommend this book and would suggest that parents read together.
Standing on the Promises is excellent in that it provides sound parenting advise and is Bible based. It is one of several we will be providing for our children to help and encourage them as they raise their children in a Christ-like manor.
I would recommend it not only for parents, but grandparents as well. I wish I'd had this book when my children were little.
A must read, no matter the ages and stages of your children!! Wonderful!!
