God has designed each family to be a culture with a language, customs, traditions, and countless unspoken assumptions. The culture of the family intimately shapes the children who grow up in it. It is the duty of the father to ensure that the shaping takes place according to biblical wisdom. Some fathers establish a rebellious culture for their children and bring upon their children the wrath of God, sometimes for generations. Other fathers fail to establish any distinct culture, and outside cultures rush to fill the void.

Douglas Wilson argues in this book that God promised blessings to His people, "their children, and their children's children forever." The norm for faithful members of the covenant is that their children will follow them in faithfulness. The oddity should be children who fall away. Unless we reestablish faithful Christian culture in countless homes, we will never reestablish it anywhere else.

This book is part of the Canon Press series of books on the family, which has helped many people trying to deal with the on the ground messes that come with sinners living under the same roof. This book on childrearing covers the basic duties parents have to their children, as well as much biblical advice on the particularities that come with it.

Used by thousands, Canon’s Family Series provides the building blocks for a home centered on Jesus. The call to build a beautiful home is both an honor and a challenge. In this simple guide, Nancy Wilson draws on decades of experience to give Christian moms practical principles on childbirth, education, discipline, and more. What does a godly living room look like? Kitchen? Front porch? Junk drawer? Pastor Douglas Wilson takes the whole family on a room-by-room tour of a Christian house, showing how selflessness transforms everything. Christian parents should raise their kids with prayer, faith, and confidence. This accessible and challenging study by pastor Douglas Wilson lays out what God requires and promises as you parent your children. Current dating practices leave young people emotionally and spiritually wrecked. Pastor Douglas Wilson offers men and women biblical truth for honoring God, their parents, and one another as they pursue long-lasting relationships. “Is this radical Christianity? No. This is basic Christianity.” Longtime wife and mother Nancy Wilson presents the counterintuitive way Christian wives can maximize freedom and happiness in their marriage: respect their man.

These are our top sellers, presenting God’s grace and truth for every person at every moment. Normal day-to-day life with kids at early ages can be exhausting. Rachel Jankovic, mother of seven, provides personal stories and practical advice on how to persevere in the high but demanding call of motherhood. Our unchristian world preaches to men a gospel of weakness and fragility. Michael Foster and Bnonn Tenant challenge men to embrace what God made them: dangerous leaders, god-fearing husbands, inspiring fathers, loyal friends. How can you be a faithful woman in the unfolding consequences of feminism’s war against femininity? Rebekah Merkle focuses on God’s design for women, encouraging you to be a godly mom, a loving wife, and a bold entrepreneur. God designed the household as his kingdom’s command center—and Christians can choose to work either with or against God’s design. In this truly original book, C.R. Wiley unlocks the deep, eschatological centrality of the household. “This book is nothing less than a proclamation of the Gospel as embodied in family life.” Pastor Douglas Wilson gets at the heart of the family, revealing how listening to the Gospel transforms the way we disciple and care for our children’s souls."

These are our top sellers, presenting God’s grace and truth for every person at every moment. How do you raise great men, ready for work, marriage, worship, and suffering? Pastor and father Douglas Wilson gives practical advice on how to mold your boys into powerful servants of God, addressing everything from school to sports to sex. Wisdom. Courage. Modesty. In fifteen brief lessons, Nancy Wilson outlines the virtues of a godly woman. Suitable for small group bible studies or personal devotionals, this practical guide offers clarity and encouragement to women of all ages. Cooking for crowds is a great but tough ministry opportunity, requiring tons of stress, money, and mental math (0.75 tsp. x 5 = 3.75 tsp = 1.25 tbsps). Drawing on long experience, Rebekah Merkle provides big recipes that are quick, cheap, and classy. One of the self-centered ideas shaping our culture is that you are enough. You are not enough, Rachel Jankovic says. Pretending differently makes true happiness impossible. But in Christ, you can find more meaning and love than you ever hoped for. “You can’t score points until you have the ball. And reformers will not have the ball until they have a culture.” America needs redeeming change. Here’s how to do it, from one of our time’s most effective reformers.

This book is probably going to be a shock to some. Pastor Wilson digs into the heart of parenting and the gravity of God’s call for parents. Yet he also provides the encouragement and hope of the Gospel and God’s promises to the often weary hearts and minds of parents. This book is for those who are not satisfied with modern methods of worldly wisdom but for those who desire to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness through what God has revealed in the His Word.

I just finished reading this in 2020 amidst the chaos and confusion of a world turned upside down. In God’s providence, He has given us the opportunity to take seriously our callings to raise our children in the fear and admonition of the Lord and to do it in the context of prioritizing God’s order of parents teaching the children that God has given them. I have 3 children under the age of 7 and it has truly been an adjustment but this book has helped me refocus on God’s promises and his call on my life as a husband and father to take ownership over the education of my children. My wife has also been reading the book as well and we have grown together more and more as we began homeschooling and I began working from home due to the coronavirus.

Enough of my rambling, I highly recommend this book and would suggest that parents read together.

This book was just what I needed. Wanting to raise my children in the Lord, but not knowing exactly how to accomplish that this book really opened up my eyes to how to go about raising my children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. My pastor recommended this book and I’m so glad he did because if he hadn’t I wouldn’t have read it and I would still be ignorant about the right way to discipline and correct my children. This book is a must have for every Christian home. I really enjoyed reading it and growing in my knowledge of child rearing.

I am a parent of 3, now adult children. Because of the distance between where we lived and where our oldest lived we have not been as involved in our 4 older (now ages 8-14 yrs) grandchildren’s lives. Our other 2 children and their families live close; 1 right next door to us, the other 45 miles away. Thus, we are much more involved with our younger grandchildren, ages <1yr to 2yrs old. We’re seeking to provide meaningful gifts for this period of their lives as well as reading books ourselves to be better parents and grandparents. We want to be the best grandparents we can be while understanding that our children and their spouses are our grandchildren's parents and as grandparents we are to come along side them and support them as parents.

Standing on the Promises is excellent in that it provides sound parenting advise and is Bible based. It is one of several we will be providing for our children to help and encourage them as they raise their children in a Christ-like manor.

I would recommend it not only for parents, but grandparents as well. I wish I'd had this book when my children were little.

Like Shepherding a Child's Heart, this book made an impact in the way I parent my children. I will be referencing it for many years to come. I listened to Doug's Loving Little One's sermon series at about the same time I started this book and came away from that blessed and edified as well. I think what I got most from the sermons, or at least what I keep hearing in my head right now is "remember their frames" and what I got from the book is, like all of Doug's material, we (parents) must ground everything we do, specifically child-rearing, in our understanding of Scripture and also that we need to strive to teach our children to "love the standard, vs. conforming to it." I was particularly helped by the distinction of "house-rules" vs "God's rules," and how we should distinguish those in our homes. The chapters on discipline were very helpful as well. All-in-all, a must read for Christian parents in my opinion. I used to think that the Tripp book was the be-all, end-all, it now has a companion.

If I have read one book on parenting I have read 30 and this is the creme de la creme. I have read the majority of Doug Wilson's books and once again he tells you things you already know deep down inside as being truth, but he expands on them in such a profound way that really helps you see the role that God has placed on us as parents. Douglas Wilson helps to show why it is so important to follow the direction of Gods teaching. We have to answer for the lack of parenting, in todays times it may seem archaic to parent this way and it is tough if you do not start out this way but I see a difference in my own children and I know when they are an adult they will have a biblical out look on the world instead of conforming to it.

We have five delightful children whom we love to invite over each Sunday for dinner. When asked how we did it, we just hand out copies of this book. By faith, you really can plead the promises of God, which he delights to keep. In truth, we are really crappy parents who had to plead forgiven from our children often as they grew up, but Doug really does help parents think through how to win your children over to the powerful life of Gospel obedience.
