These sawhorses are what they are which are relatively inexpensive sawhorses which are ideal for occasional home use. They fold down quite nicely and take up little storage room. These sawhorses ARE NOT built for industrial or professional use, not by a long shot! If you took them to a construction job site I would imagine they would last only a very short time. If that is the purpose you plan to use them for then you had either better fork out a lot more money, or better yet, build your own...something that is not all that difficult to accomplished, especially if you are a trained carpenter.
I use mine around the home and may use them four or five times a year. Most of the chores I use them for are rather light weight with the heaviest being throwing some planks across them to act as makeshift and low to the ground scaffolding. They hold my weight just fine...190 pounds). I also use them for minor and brief woodworking projects accomplished outside my shop. They also work quite well in slapping together lightweight tables when we have a yard sale.
These things only weight a little over 12 pounds and since I move them from place to place this becomes a very big deal...particularly at my age and physical condition. I have several homemade wooden sawhorses out in the barn and let me tell you those are heavy suckers and wear me out hauling them around...something I have to do when I have very heavy and lengthy projects going....arrrgh! Having these little things around has been good for my back and knees.
For the price and for what I use them for I could not ask for more.
I have been using them for about 6 months. If you leave them set up they are fine. If you try to fold them up and unfold them later, the tabs on the plastic hinges never line up anymore, most of them are now broken off. It would not have been too difficult to design better hinges or use reinforced plastic on that part of them.
I havent decided if I want to waste time and pay shipping to return them, let them limp along, or just chuck them and write off as $35 loss. I bought these based upon the volume of 5 star ratings. I write few reviews, but feel compelled to speak up. Maybe I just got stuck with a dud; but I expected better from Stanley Tools.
Someone else complained about cracking plastic in freezing cold......it was a sunny 60 degree day.
