batteries for back-up. (never needed to use them).
I have been pleasantly surprised at the torque power. The battery lasted over 4 hours, and was going strong when I had finished my project.
This drill is not meant to build a house, but it sure is an excellent tool to have to do jobs around the house.
The added bits are nice too.
You won't be disappointed.
I did notice that the drill can get quite hot. I read a few reviews that say units burn out. I think if you do not pay attention here you can kill the drill if you are not careful, the good news is, it does not get hot often, and when it does it does not take long for it to cool back down with the way the vents are set up.
My advice is - if you want something really heavy duty you may want to get a brand better known for that. Dewalt for example - will be a much sturdier drill than this. However, if you want a cheap drill that can get you through projects - get this one. Pay attention to the heat like you should with anything and you will be happy.
The drill has a quality feel to it. Not Lexus-quality, but Toyota-quality. My earlier, lower-quality drill has quite a bit of wobble and play in it. That gets magnified if you use a long attachment. That meant many times the drill jumped-out of the #2 screws I mostly worked on, or it damaged the screws a bit by the time I was done. This drill is built to much tighter tolerance and it seems to jump-out of the screws a lot less. Also I see less (but still some) metal residue on the bit after turning a screw.
Lots of torque
Excellent speed control. You can turn a screw at exactly the speed you want. This is very helpful in avoiding over-torquing and having the bit jump out of the screw.
I do small projects around the house, so still on my first charge
Nice weight. Not too heavy.
No strong negatives. I looked at much much more expensive drills and wished for some extra features, so sharing that just FYI:
1] Many drills have LEDs that spotlight your work area. This one didn't.
2] Built-in horizontal and vertical level would have been nice, though I never used the ones in my earlier drill.
3] I much prefer drill/drivers because their stubby snouts make them much more handy to maneuver into tight spots. This drill has a traditional profile. Now add a longish bit to get into a tight spot and you've got something that's nearly a foot long!
4] Top-of-the line drill/drivers costing 3-5 times more, are brushless. That means much longer battery life and no carbon brushes to wear-out. If you're willing to pay extra for quality, it might be an idea to look at brushless drill/drivers as well. I could have bought one of those myself, but in the end felt my very light use didn't justify such an expensive tool.
Every product offers a balance of price/performance. This drill is excellent for its price.
Highly recommended at its price.
This drill is incredibly light weight and the price is right considering it comes with battery, charger and some basic accessories. (Great for someone who doesn't have a lot of strength)
UPDATE: Now that I have had this a week and the Black & Decker BDCDD220C 20V MAX Lithium 2-Speed Drill/Driver - I am returning both! Do not waste your money on either one of these drills.
If you are somehow forced into buying a B&D Drill, buy the 20V MAX 2 speed - but know that it is for simple house jobs only. Because the chuck will not hold a drill bit/driver if there is any resistance and it does not have a break stop (if you let go of the trigger, it will continue to spin) which can be dangerous.
I will leave a review for this product, a 6" adjustable Stanley wrench. The wrench has a nice rubbererized handle with a rather small tether hole. The real issue is that the adjustable lower jaw is very sloppy, and moves at least a millimeter in every direction; up/down, side to side.
For a professional, this is unacceptable, but par for the course for a cheap tool that is better suited for the weekend warrior who doesn't deal with tight tolerances.
just my two cents.
