I always prefer cooking with Stainless over aluminum. Thank you Stanly for giving me a choice. Stainless when seasoned and with oil and cooking at the right temperatures, is non-stick. No need for yucky coatings on our pans.
I also prefer reusable to disposable. The plates and sporks, though smaller sized, are very serviceable. When combined with the bowls of the cook set, each camper has plenty of room for the heartiest meal.
The only thing I would change is the lid. I wish it were stainless like the other set vs. plastic, hence the docked star.
The quality of this set is apparent when you handle and use it. It is better suited for car camping vs. backpacking due to the substantialness and weight.
The locking handle feels secure when handling the pan and the layered bottom distributes heat better. The included trivet is also handy as a pot holder or to use on the table.
I just found out this also works on an induction cook top!
Most all the components in the kit are very useful. The plastic lid being the only exception. The lid would not stay securely attached to the pan and is essentially useless in regard to cooking.
The plates, utensils, and cutting board are nice features. I have used all of them periodically throughout the past year while camping. I especially liked the 2-piece spatula design.
For the most part, an excellent kit that Stanley has put together. I have recommended this cook set to others, as well as the Stanley adventure cook set and the adventure prep w/cook set.
I would say that Stanley's Adventure series cook sets are a great value. Would be even better if one could buy individual components instead of the complete kits.
Now, for my personal preferences, I have gradually removed or replaced every item that comes with the pan from my backpack kit.
Useless plastic lid replaced with MSR Alpine plate. The alpine plate also negates the need for the plastic plates. Although the spatula is a nice feature, I replaced that with a small stainless steel spatula that I made. I use a titanium spoon & fork set, so the supplied utensils are of no use to me. The cutting board was also removed, being too small for my uses. The silicon trivet isn't something I would never use anyway, so that was removed as well.
Cooked eggs, bacon, sausages, veggies, reheated pizza and other meats on it.
To me it is very durable and I feel like ive put it through the ringer and it held. Definetly recommend.
I seasoned the pan with a very light coat of olive oil on a paper towel after boiling water in it and quickly emptying it of the hot water and letting the remaining water to evaporate.
I find it is marvelous at the 3.5 heat setting on my induction stove top for perfect pancakes. I let it heat up for a few minutes, use a dab of olive oil on a paper towel to slick the pan up. Cook the pancakes. No sticking. Use the olive oil paper towel between each pancake. (A little is more!)
After cooking, I use the same dab of olive oil paper towel and wipe the warm pan out. No need to wash it.
I seasoned a steak and brought the temperature up to 7 to sear the steak 30 seconds on each side. . I reduced the heat to 5 and it cooks the steak to perfection. (I use a digital thermometer for my preference.)
I find that a lid from my older pans work great on this small pan.
I do use the extra stuff that came with it. It was a nice additional value!
I bought the Stanley Camp Pro Cook Set. Same thing but more pots and pans. It is excellent!
