Must-read Star Brigade series companion

CC Ekeke is to modern SF what Tolkien is to fantasy - a peerless world-builder, master of both the long view and the current snapshot. His Star Brigade novels, Resurgent, Maelstrom and Supremacy, form the definitive plausible view of far-future humanity's place among the other races of the galaxy. Odysseys, his collection of short stories which are situated in the time from before Reurgent forward to Supremacy, fills in some lightly sketched details from the novels as well as fleshing out the individual personalities of his more important characters. So does the inclusion here of deleted chapters from Resurgent - material too valuable to be discarded despite its poor fit in the structure of that novel. A final bonus is Ekeke's primer on the history and government of the Galactic Union - the necessary broad overview that shapes the novels' alphabet soup of acronyms into a coherent org chart, and also gives framework to the social, political, and military components of Ekeke's galaxy. As entertaining as they are in their own right, the tales of Odysseys offer such insight and illumination to the world of the Galactic Union that I can't imagine the Star Brigade series without them.

If you've read the Star Brigade series, this provides many insights into the motivations of the characters, elements of history relating to the series and behind the scenes of crucial events. Most of these are snippets, quick views, not really developed into complete stories. There are only a couple stories that I'd say are stand alone short stories. Having read the series I found it all very interesting. The Star Brigade characters are not just stereotypes and cardboard cutouts and I like having additional insights into them. The history of the Star Brigade 'verse is rich and complex and additional info is also welcome. If you've read the series I see no reason not to get this, you'll find much of interest. If you've not read it I recommend going to the Amazon page for Star Brigade Resurgent vol 1. and looking inside. If you like what you see click buy. The story does not disappoint.

This is a group of stand-alone short stories based in the Star Brigade universe. Each story is original and enjoyable with fully realized characters and world building. New readers get a buffet of tastes while established Star Brigade readers get Hors d'oeuvres and desserts!

I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, being that this isn't a genre I usually read, but I was pleasantly surprised. The author, C.C. Ekeke, has a talent that is unique. What I mean by that is he relates to the reader on a level that is real. You will notice that right in the beginning. From there, he introduces you to a beautiful, intelligent, and descriptive world of sci-fi short stories, an anthology if you will.
I think my favorite of the 16 stories is SAMARITAN and the character Darkstar. Also, in the beginning of this fabulous anthology, he gives you a backstory of the Galactic Union. I highly recommend C.C. Ekeke's Star Brigade: An Anthology to sci-fi fans, and for anyone who simply wants to read a stellar book!
