What Readers Are Saying About The Star Child...
If you're a lover of mythology, young adult, and romance, look no further. Pick The Star Child won't be disappointed!--BTS Magazine
Stephanie Keyes is a wonderful voice for a new generation of YA readers. She has skillfully blended mythology and faerie-tale into an original and enthralling story.  Pure magick! I'm looking forward to more.---Helen Hart, author, The Black Banner

From the Author

What Steph Says...
So my first to sum it up? I've always had a fascination with two things: magic and far-away places. When I sat down to write the main theme to The Star Child, which would later become Chapter Six, I had no idea what the book would become. I knew that I wanted to write about a girl who lit the stars in the sky every night, however, I also understood that I didn't think I could write the story from a teen girl's point of view. So Kellen St, James, the main protagonist in The Star Child series was born.

With the introduction of Kellen, I was able to create a story that I hope appeals to both boys and girls, young and old. Kellen doesn't have any special powers or magick of his own--he has his brain. Usually, he manages to get himself out of tough situations, but he does so with common sense and by following his gut--pretty much what we all have to go by.
Kellen has become my best friend on this journey. I hope you will enjoy meeting him as he engages in an epic battle and epic romance!

Each of us is running each and every day, going about our business, always focused on the next task. After awhile it's easy to become jaded, to lose the magic. But what if magic existed just beyond our reach? What if you only had to believe to enter another world? Enter the world of The Star Child and you will journey a world of Myth and Legends, of Shapeshifters, Faeries, Gods and Goddesses, Celtic Lore, and heartbreaking Romance.

The Star Child is the debut novel for American Author Stephanie Keyes.

The realisation that his Father doesn't have time for you in his important schedule hits Kellen St James on the day of his graduation from Yale. Graduating at 17 years of age before most people would even get to University still doesn't earn his Father's pride.

Kellen decides there and then that he needs to carve out his own path in life if he is ever to find happiness. Most of his life following the sudden death of his dear Mother, Kellen has not been able to connect with either his Father or brother and only had the love and support of his Grandmother. Following her death, Kellan suddenly has the financial freedom to build a new life.

A distant memory is re-awoken when a vision of the beautiful young girl he met as a child sucks him into a place he can't explain, a place that doesn't appear to be in this world?

Can Kellen find happiness on his own without the help of his Father? Can there be more to the memories than he first thought? How far will Kellen go to protect those he loves?

Wow what a story! I will mention this again, but those that follow my blog know, "inner worlds with portal that people pass through" stories are not normally my cup of tea. My little brain can't understand what I can't physically see! However, I have to say I think Stephanie may well have helped change my views on this genre of novel!

Kellen's life seems normal on the surface for about 1/4 of the book apart from a glimpse at the start of where this will take you. Suddenly he is pulled into another world.

I don't very often read fantasy, but when I do, I want to be captivated, engaged, and taken to another reality. The Star Child delivers on all these fronts! I was totally hooked by the opening chapters. I was right there at that graduation ceremony, and I felt the agony of the difficult relationship between Kellen and his father, not forgetting the remembered loss of his mother. Moreover, the novel's start in the `real' world and Kellen's gradual involvement with the fantasy characters enabled me to make the journey and the transition with him, adding a great measure of plausibility and authenticity to the plot.

I read The Star Child almost in a single setting! Favourite moments includes Kellen's farewell scene with his father (you go, boy!) and his first encounter with Calienta. The only aspect I found a little confusing was the modern-day trappings found in the home of a creature of the underworld... but Kellen comments on that, too, so I was reconciled immediately. This novel has romance, suspense, action and a great ending. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and can't wait for the sequel!

I absolutely hate what I am about to do and that is to write a less than favorable review. Through some unusual circumstances, I was given a copy of this book to review. I also purchased an official copy through Amazon (short version: I’m weird about things like that). Warning: there are some spoilers in this review, which I have attempted to keep vague but they are there.

I have several issues with this book. The first is the broad strokes used to create the characters. To me they felt unrealistic and overly simple. The main character is a written set of walking contradictions and is completely un-relatable. The book starts out with his graduation from Yale at the age of 17, something very few people could relate to. He then tells us that, due to his young age, the women in college wanted nothing to do with him. However, later in the book, he tells us that older women think he is older than his years and always have the hots for him. I get that women in college wouldn’t want the jailbait thing, but would that stop them being friends with this self-proclaimed Adonis? This broadly paints the women of the University as unbelievably shallow. If he appears older than his years, many of the college women would have been hitting on him, simply because they likely would not have known who he was, or how young he was.

The main character describes himself as a bit socially awkward but nothing in his actions within the book ever made that seem true. The funny thing is, he avoided women simply because they didn’t compare to a girl he met when he was six. She was described as the same age as him at the time. So, since that distant memory, no other woman could compare to a six year old.

The Star Child is a wonderful read for those who love young adult fantasy. It features a seventeen-year-old genius, Kellan, who meets Calienta the girl of his dreams--literally. Kellan has been dreaming of Calienta most of his life.

Little does he know that she is a star being and he has a destiny to fulfill. I enjoyed Kellan and Calienta immensely as characters and in relationship. I also enjoyed the rich Celtic mythology woven throughout this novel.

This book is unique and original. Fans of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Paperback Boxed Set (Books 1-3)will love The Star Child for its world of Celtic gods and goddesses and Kellan's grand adventure. I look forward to reading the next installment of this imaginative and original series.
