The reviews I've read for this record have been all over the board. Some think it's worthless and others think ITM has put out their best record to date. So I'll try to stick to the facts and leave opinion out of it as much as possible.
1. This record really is a good mix of their last two records, which are quite different from each other. This includes the fact that there is a mix of screaming and clean vocals.
2. Some of the songs will seem cheesy, mostly lyrically, but even musically (Gunshow, for example), but they DO fit into the overall theme of the album.
3. There is some good songwriting mixed in with some more generic aspects. If you're looking for some kind radical new sound, you probably won't find it here.
4. Building on #3, Maria Brink's screaming vocals have a special kind of emotional intensity. You may not appreciate them like I do, but it's an assault on my ears that I only find in certain bands.
5. There are some more radio-friendly songs on this record - I said "more" - not "completely." This is not automatically a bad thing, unless the band's forcing these out just to try to make radio playlists. Again, judge for yourselves.
6. If you dislike screaming lyrics, don't get this record, and if you ONLY like screaming lyrics, you might not want to get this album.
7. Some reviewers have stated their opinions that ITM is trying to be like Evanescence. I think it's possible they were just experimenting with moving in a direction that melds different aspects of their sound and moves forward in whatever direction it takes them.
8. Some reviewers don't like the mixture of the male/female vocal parts on the record. I like them at some times more than others, but they don't make or break the record for me.

In This Moment has once again proved to be a band not to be messed with. A Star-Crossed Wasteland is their third release and it seems like each album gets better than the last. Musically the band has returned to a more heavier style while lyrically, more darker than before. The vocals of Maria Brink, which on this album is outstanding throughout especially on the title track and album closer World In Flames, which soars to new heights. There's an even amount of singing and screaming which is what we love about this band in the first place. 2 tracks, The Gun Show and Blazin contain no clean/singing vocals at all. The band is also doing a great job with the guitars and drums, which sound fantastic. It's true that this band isn't that huge yet but I think this is their defining album, and it's about time that the music world would take notice.

This is my second round with this band. I had previously experienced Blood and loved it. I won't rehash my entire review of that album or how I got into this band. I will say that when I get into a new band I tend to work backwards and listen to their newest stuff first and go back through to their oldest. That's what I am doing now with ITM. I already knew that the band as a whole was evolving their sound as they progressed so I knew to judge this on it's own and not compare it to Blood. Maria still rocks and shows she is capable of not just screaming and aggression but also beautiful melodies as well. In this album she is backed up more by Chris and it does work, however she doesn't really need him despite the fact that he isn't bad (she's just better). Anyway I like the overall sound of the band and Star Crossed Wasteland is a solid entry.

My favorite tracks on here are : The Gunshow, The Promise, Blazin, Iron Army and the Last Cowboy. I also enjoy Just Drive, Star Crossed Wasteland, The Road and Standing Alone. That leaves World in Flames which is my least favorite however that does not mean I don't like it. It just ends up skipped a lot because I tend to skip less heavier stuff. The winning song for me is Iron Army and the best Maria/Chris pairing is The Promise. They work really well together here and make a very repeatable song for me despite not being the heaviest.

Overall, awesome album that I highly recommend. You can't get enough Maria Brink!!!!

I choose this rating because the CD is good. What I like about the CD is that the songs are good. What I dislike about the CD is that I wanted to hear more of it. I would recommend this CD to other people.

I started backwards with this band. I bought Black Widow and then Blood. Two really great albums! This is older but I still like it. Not as much as their latest. They still sound a little raw but still true to form. I enjoyed it.

Again a great band with a wonderful lead singer that knows how to tear it up along with the rest of the band doing the same thing. I am a fan of this band to which I have never heard of just going thru all of the albums online that Amazon offers. Otherwise I would have never heard of them and I would be missing out on a great band, who I hope come to town because i think they would put on a Great show.

This music just keeps getting better and better. I still can't believe the voice that this woman has. Her newest CD shows the change as time goes on.The group performs well and has what it takes to keep moving up the charts. Great music videos also.
This Group puts on great concert shows.
