Once I read the blurb, I thought, Wow! I remember these from when I was in grade school! How fun those were! I knew I wanted to read it for that simple fact alone!
This took a bit to get used to the writing. I was written like a narration. You sit down here. You grab a towel while bending over. Once I got the hang of it and dove into it, things were flowing along until my first Y in the road. Choice-go on or jump to here. Problem? I read on a Kindle. There is virtually no way to show page numbers, only locations. I couldn't skip to page 75 if I wanted. I had no clue what page I was even on, only my location and the percent of the book read. So I ended up reading all the jumps-and that was not the way this book was designed. It was a lot to muddle through.
Unfortunately, this story as a whole, fell flat for me. I didn't click with the characters. I didn't necessarily dislike them, but I also wasn't intrigued with them either. Honey seemed very immature for her age. I didn't think she thought of the consequences to her actions. Because of that, she came off childish. Ultimately, I found myself not vested in her or the story.
The concept was a neat idea-in theory, just wasn't as easy to navigate as I had hoped. Maybe you will see it differently.
