This deck is based on the Golden Dawn deck with influences from RWS and Thoth. I am a RWS gal thru and thru so this will not be an easy deck for me to learn.
The deck is loaded with symbolism and draws on and honors numerous cultures, making it a very modern deck.
The illustrations are, for me, among the most beautiful I have ever seen. The Major and Minor Arcanas are both richly illustrated equally, which is not the case in many decks. The backs are dark blue with an 8 pointed star and are fully reversible.
The cards are large with unfortunately large borders. Many of you will want to trim it. I wish I had the skills to do so. I wish the borders were smaller or not there at all, as they are a detraction. The cards are glossy and stick a bit. Between that and the size they are a little challenging to shuffle. The card stock is very thin.
The thick companion book is detailed and of high quality. It has black and white illustrations with each card meaning. Symbols are fully explained.
The set comes in a gorgeous, sturdy box.
Overall, this deck is one of my favorites just based on this first perusal despite the card quality issues.
I am giving this four rather than five stars because of the card stock and borders. What a shame.
It's beautiful, but I'm disappointed in the quality.
