The final frontier
This is the last numbered volume in the series of novelizations of Star Trek episodes. There is one additional unnumbered book in the series, which adapts the Harry Mudd episodes. James Blish died before he finished this book, so his wife wrote the adaptations of two of the episodes. She actually did a pretty good job and her efforts are about as good as her husband's. The episodes in this volume are "Patterns of Force", "The Gamesters of Triskelion", "And the Children Shall Lead", "The Corbomite Maneuver" and "Shore Leave".

No library had the book, so I went online for it. Last in the series, and I was bummed out. Then you had it and I received it. Thank you so much for fulfilling my needs!

This is, obviously, the 12th set of adaptations of the original stories. The first eleven covered 72 of the 79 episodes. This one adapts five of the final seven. (The two remaining episodes, both featuring Harry Mudd, had their adaptations done in a separate volume along with an original novella.)

Needless to say, these aren't the cream of the crop. I believe #3 was the best, with 2 and 4 right behind (and 9 being my personal favorite). This contains three of what I consider the weakest episodes of the series. However, the last two in this set (both from the first season) were episodes I enjoyed (The Corbomite Manuver, which was nominated for a Hugo, and Shore Leave).

This volume is co-written between James Blish, who did the previous eleven volumes (and the first Star Trek novel, Spock Must Die) and his wife, J. A. Lawrence. The reason for this is because Blish did not survive the completion of his project, so Lawrence finished it.
